I really need to brush up on VLANs, how they work, what is required etc.

I need to get a full understanding, so any suggestion will help :)
 
You after knowing about VLANs on local only networks or on bridged/tunnelled networks?
 
bridged/tunnelled networks between 2 data centres (VLAN at each end I think is how it is setup)
 
VLAN's are covered on the Cisco ICND2 exam (part of the CCNA route) so any book on ICND2 640-816 should cover what you need.

Not played with VLANs yet, but I do know you need to know the network topology to understand how to route them appropriately.

Google has lots of hits for VLAN and tunnel and bridge... ;)
