Can anyone guess what car this is?

The film is High-Rise and based in the uk in the 70's were they selling chevrolet over here in the 70's? The badge looks like chevrolet to me too.

Chevrolet or Chrysler perhaps

I would have thought the USA cars in rhd would have few and far between........fairly sure the ones I saw were all LHD ???

i'm wondering if the badge could be a jenson badge.

Well spotted i didnt notice the wiper. Could well be a mock up then.

Apart from the oddity with the wiper(s) does that interior mirror look right?

As so long ago for my memory but how many factory fitted internal mirrors were attached with an adhesive pad??? My memory is that mirrors were screw mounted to the roof 'bar'.

The bonnet scoop is offset to the driver's side. The car could have a single wiper covering both sides. Would seem a bit odd to build a mock-up with a washer nozzle in the wiper blade rather than use a simple wiper. An image search for Interceptors throws up some with wipers that way round (both RHD and LHD - possibly the RHD ones were converted left hookers?)

ETA the rear, as seen through the screen looks wrong for an interceptor.

The seats the single wiper the back rear quarter the off centre bulge in the bonnet all look like it could be a citreon cx. The bonnet vent and badge doesn't match though.

It's got to be the cx the badge is a t for turbo. The vent must be a custom job.

I think we may have a winner!

It's neither of those. The badge has overtones of Ford Thunderbird but the ends of the wings are angled in the wrong direction.
That bonnet vent looks plastic. Can't think of any cars with plastic bonnet vents as early as the 70's.

Looking at those cars (33 seconds in) is that a Triumph Stag in the centre? I thought they all had twin headlights.

Also, if the film is set in the 70's...............X reg was 1981. :wideyed: Back to the future type film?

I thought it was late 70s but could well be early 80s. The book was 75 I assumed it was 70s.

Yeah it is a stag it's in the film quite a bit.

Most TV shows will have crew that mock up cars, so it works for the period trying to mimic. Was it DR Who, that had a ford running gear, made up. The funny looking old fashioned buggy type car, that Jon ( still think he was the best DR) Pertwee drove.

According to Wiki it is set in the 70's, so you were correct. (y) Someone c0cked up I guess.

I can't remember Stags without twin headlights. Inner was main beam & outer was dipped (I think? but could've been the other way round)

Yeah strange that. Maybe they modified them all don't know why though. The stag has aged well though, still a lovely looking car.

Is it a badge? It would be unusual to have a manufacturers badge very off centre.

Citroën CX 25 DTR Turbo 2

The lack of chrome is an anachronism on a 70's film don’t you think?

I saw 5 door hatchback/4-door fastback and a strangely shaped back window - and I thought CX,

When Citroen made interesting cars....................

very sad that when you see new car listings the engine lineup is dominated by turbodiesels.

I really miss square nosed cars. No one makes them anymore. The only one I can think of is Land/range rover. I assume it's a pedestrian safety thing. I think pretty much all my favourite cars have one.

It's more for fuel saving I think, square nosed cars have the aerodynamics of a brick.

It also means bumper scrapes are less likely and makes it easier to parallel park.
I don't know about that. The bonnet on my cmax slopes away in such a way that I can not see the front end of the car, its disconcerting. I am a short arse though.

So does my Focus but you get an idea of where the front is. Even though the front is curved, the front looks square from the driving seat, meaning the cut off corners give you more room for manoeuvre, not only that it also gives other motorists room to manoeuvre and not hit your car if they insist on parallel parking with the car facing the wrong way like the majority of my neighbours do.

We had a gold CX GTI - brilliant car for eating up the miles, and I loved every idiosyncratic inch. I'm not at all sorry that turbodiesels are so popular though, since they're so good to drive.

6 1/2 grand for a Viva HB? They're trying it on, surely?

I used to have an HA. Bloody horrible - but extremely cheap (it was given to me - an ex-boss had bought it for its reg number and just wanted shot of it!) Drove it until the clutch failed completely then sent it away on the back of a scrappy's truck. IIRC I got £50 for the thing.

I really like the look of Vauxhall and Opel of that age viva, Firenza, manta A etc.. not got a great reputation though.

Had a Firenza and loved it! 2.2 sloper engine with (allegedly) a little breathing done on it. Went like pooh off a digging implement as long as corners weren't involved! Another that went to the big rusting pile when it died. Again, very cheap (£100 IIRC, including a year of tax and MOT.)

I guess it must be in here somewhere? 33 seconds in;

In the middle is either a Stag or Mk2 2000 / 2.5PI . They all had twin headlights, so I suspect that they have manipulated the image to remove the inner one on each side.

Also, interesting to hear "Love on a real train" (sort of) by Tangerine Dream used in a movie trailer, but not for the film it was part of the score for (Risky Business).

I love the film and the score in risky business.
