Why does my camera name some photos IMG_0000 and others _MG_0000.

Thanks

I'm sure this or something very similar was discussed a day or so ago but can't seem to find it.

lol, somoneone asked the exact same question two day ago, it's all to do with the coloursapce the camera is set to.

IMG_0000 - RGB
_MG_0000 - Adobe.

Hope that answers it :)

He has a higher gb memory than I have:lol:

oh right. my camera only seems to name them IMG_0000 when in auto mode though.

Yeah, that's probably right, I'm using a 400D and as far a I can see, going back to full auto turns off all custom functions, plus not enabling RAW shooting etc.

Is it anything to do with auto mode. Tried it at my mates tonight with his 400d. tried a shot in auto and it were IMG_0000 and did the same shot in TV and it were _MG_0000. Does the camera change the colourspace in auto mode?

lol, I think we are a bit out of sync, see my previous answer ;)

My mate had some on his computer that were cr2 plus a jpeg named IMG_0000. This is what is throwing me. I didn't think you could shoot raw in auto. lol

Read all the posts! :p

It names them based on colourspace.

IMG = sRGB
_MG = AdobeRGB

When you use Auto, it ignores all custom functions, so if you had set it to use AdobeRGB (so labels are '_MG')in the semi-auto/manual modes, then when you use full auto it will be back to sRGB and IMG labels.

Your friend probably just used sRGB anyway on the RAW photos he took which are called IMG.
