I have seen cameras for sale quoting xxx number of clicks. How is this figure obtained, is there a specific way to find out or is it estimated?

Thanks in advance :)

I thought that it depended on the camera , I think some retain the total number whilst others (Sony) can be reset.

Does depend on the camera.

If you say what camera you are looking at someone can tell you how to check and if the figure can be reset.

I know my D2X records the number of shutter actuations in the image exif data, presumably it'll depend on your camera whether it does or ot

I think some exif data loops the count at 65535, so 65536 = 1 etc meaning that I wouldnt necessarily rely on exif shutter counts.

my fuji 6x7 had it on the bottom as a mileage recorder
it was a service counter

Its a Canon 450D. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. Thanks for all of your replies so far.
