Hi all,

I want to try and find a cheap and safe way to modify my tripod, I want to be able to photograph from above.
I keep a tropical saltwater reef tank, I have been photographing a certain coral I keep hand held from above.
It would be so much easier and I believe sharpness etc will improve too, I have the Red Snapper tripod with ball head.
Im not after spending a fortune but was hoping there was a simple clamp or similar?

gorrila pod? also just looked at the exif data and 1/80th sec shutter speed might not be fast enough to stop the action. try f8 at around 125th sec and see what you get hth mike. pretty sure you have movement issues NOT focus

How far do you want the camera to go away from the tripod? How wide is the tank?

Suspend the camera above salty water? I'm having palpitations at the very thought

Can't you just use a board or two across the tank, and simply lie down the tripod on them?

Thank you all for your replies
Where to start,
The zoanthids are at the front of my tank and just below the waters surface, The pole would only need to be 600 if i was vertical with the tripod at the correct height
I know I can get a bit more light in to the picture with upping the ISO and gain some shutter speed, But I would love to attemp some stacking on these images.
I'm not prepared to make up something that is not 100% safe,
Thank you for the link, But I think I would need a double clamp? One part of the clamp off the tripod and another taking the boom if that makes sense?

See if you can find a cheap used Benbo or Uniloc tripod. Once you use one of these you'll never go back to a very restrictive centre column through the legs tripod.

Personally, I would consider buying a used waterproof camera and then you can put it IN the water. I photograph a lot of Koi for a mate, and my 5D3 won't be used, my Panasonic Lumix TS3 fits the bill perfectly.

Ah, the mention of stacking means these images have far more serious intentions. Time to buy a housing for the SLR and some scuba gear. Lol
