... to me what a circlular filter and a UV filters are, what 'effects' they give and when best to use them?

I have just realised i got them as part of my camera bundle and have yet to use them. :( :nono:

Thanks very much.

P.s. They are 'Kood UV' and a 'Kood Circular PL'.

UV filter cuts down on UV light, reducing haze - but doesn't work as well with digital cameras as they're less sensitive to UV light than film. A UV filter is handy as protection for your lens though!

If the "circular filter" you are referring to is a polarizer, rotating the filter reduces reflections on things bringing out detail, makes blue sky darker (at 90 degrees to the sun) and can generally help saturate colours in a scene.

Not very "tech" I know, but that's basically what they do.

Probably a good idea to make sure the front element of your lens is clean, and the UV filter is clean and then fit it to your camera lens as protection.

It's a lot cheaper to replace the UV filter than the front element of you lens, should the worse happen.
