Can a Chef really know? ...

The problem with the rating is that its only reflective of a particular day within the last 1-2 years. You can be a 5 star rating but your dishwasher breaks and that can be enough to drop you to a 4 star rating. Your actual food handling and cleanlyness can be A1 but something with your infrastructure could give you a lesser score. On the flip side if your infrastructure is good and you dont do anything wrong in front of the inspector you can get a higher score. That doesnt mean some fukwit the next day doesnt prep raw chicken on the veg chopping board before slicing up the salad.....

I must be alone in being glad that a lot of fruit is in plastic packaging. The thought of (especially in these pandemic days) eating loose fruit that has been squeezed, prodded and sniffed by multiple people to check for freshness\ripeness scares the hell out of me.

I do have to admit, when I was getting the fruit, people were coughing over the goods. They were also picking up some fruit, feeling it then putting it back.

Then drink half a bottle of red wine each without any thought for the calories....

Something that I have also limited myself on, got a good few bottles of beer from months ago. Only have one very occasionally now.

I'd rather wash my food before eating it than add even more plastic to our ecosystem.

I'm no environmentalist, but I think it's about time supermarkets took more responsibility for this, but they won't do that until we as customers demand it.

I too, wash fruit before eating it. I think the reason behind bagging fruit, is a longer shelf life, as they add something inside the packaging.

Insecticide possibly, but mostly it's to do with presentation for more profit. People readily pay more if it 'looks' nicer.

Never figured out why people pick up bagged bananas, maybe it is they who are bananas. lol

Which I always find strange. As Mrs F has a horse, she buys the big sacks of carrots from feed stores/garden centres at around £3 a time. If I want any, she just brings some back from the yard. They're peeled & chopped/sliced anyway so who really cares what shape they are.

Exactly. It just goes to show how shallow and stupid a lot of people are.

Whenever possible, we get loose veg and fruit but the past year or so has seen us getting it (almost) all delivered so it's mainly been packaged. Looking forward to a bit more normality - I actually enjoy food shopping!

I never count calories. I eat whatever I want when I want and I wouldn't care about or read about the calories in any meal I was going to eat, in or out :D

A woman on TV yesterday, I forget which show, asked the question "Should all school meals be vegetarian?" The next words out of her mouth were about rising obesity amongst children. She seemed to me to be linking eating meat with obesity and implying that a vegetarian diet will reduce obesity. I doubt it's as simple as that. I'm vegi apart from when I lapse for the odd fish and chips but I do think that children should eat a good, balanced and nutritious diet at least until their mind and body are formed.

I would love to be like that, but I have to keep an eye what I am eating. I have lost a lot of weight, and I want to keep it off. :)

I have the opposite problem in that I have to just about force feed myself to maintain my weight. At the mo I weigh about 10st 4lb (I'm 5ft 8") or there abouts but if I don't keep an eye on it I drop to about 9 and 1/2. I used to get picked on for being skinny but I did well at sports and had my own back at college and work time after time.

Just a little bit lighter than me, me being about 5ft 7 and 10st 12lb :)

I used to get picked on for being a runt as a kid, not now though. Over the years I tended to ignore the silly bullies, and many times I got them onside, this was by making them laugh, and just trying to make them see the bigger picture. :)
