Not sure if this is the best place to post but exams are ending soon and me and my mates want to go camping, we don't really wont to go to a camp site as it might (probably will) disrupt people so i was thinking instead of finding a discreet location in the peaks, can you camp on the beach??? has anybody done it?? and anyone know any good locations? preferably not to far away from sheffield (o and i know anywhere gonna be a bit of a treck but i mean not cornwall or anything)

Thanks
Jack

Is there such a thing as a beach in the Peak district?

i wish, but no its in the peaks or on a beach (i think beach would be nicer)

Just make sure the tide is not out when you set up camp, as it may get damp in the night
yea that could be pretty bad, we'd probably go at the back though to avoid this

anyone no any beaches were this would be ok???

Try to avoid windy weather too, tried that in Greece, nothing much for the tent pegs to hold on to and it got 'very' windy! :)

yea, will probably use rocks, does anyone know if its legal or not, dont really wanna get fined or anything for going camping

It depends on the location, and the laws differ all over Europe, I'm quite well versed in free camping/leave no trace camping. Although by the sounds of your description, you won't be adhering to the values of leave no trace camping. Free camping/leave no trace, already has a bad enough reputation in the UK due to the fact there aren't many people who truly understand the concept of leave no trace, don't disrupt anything/anyone, the situation is much better on the continent, but there are still issues there.

All I can say is, please go and find a campsite instead, find one that specifically caters to your needs, whatever they may be. Free camping should be leave no trace, in essence. And this requires dedication, practice, knowledge and patience, not something that suits itself to parties etc...

And just to clarify, I'm by no means criticizing or judging you at all, I just think for your needs a campsite would be much preferred, and much more beneficial to everyone. The last thing you want is to be rounded up at 3AM by a furious landowner for trespassing, damaging his land and disrupting his livestock and or family!

Have a good time regardless, and my apologies for such a lengthy message!

i agree, and in no ways would we be trying to disrupt,
but campsites aren't really an option, none of them really wont a group of 16 year old going because chances are they'll annoy someone else, and we don't particularly wont to annoy other people

If we could find a beach that is very quite i cant really see us disturbing anyone, and we would clear up so leaving a trace isnt really a problem, most of us go camping a fair bit (lots part of woodcraft folk/scouts) so we know what were doing

I do agree and thats why i was thinking a beach might be better, im just trying to find somewhere thats quite so we can camp there no problem

Jack,

I am no expert however I would imagine local county / district / parish councils set their own by-laws on what is and what is not allowed on public beaches.

For example around here - lots are "no dogs between 1 May to 30 Sep" and no BBQ's / naked flames etc..........

I would imagine that most have a no camping policy because then say if an illegal rave were to happen on a beach - there is a law in place allowing plod to deal with it. (Not saying you will be having a rave at all, however councils tend to have a one rule fits all policy as opposed to applying discretion and common sense......... Computer says, no!)

Jack, theres usually a friendly landowner who will let you use a peice of ground for small / no charge, I know a few up near me but none in your area.

ok i think i may have given the wrong idea, no raves or anything, tops 10 people , probably 2-3 tents :)

anyway i would be able to check if a beach allows camping before??? as although i dont have a probs with breaking silly rules, would make for a bit of a bad night if someone got arsey about it

Thank

yea this was my first plan, was gonna contact a farmer or something in edale, then i realised i dont happen to know any farmers at all let alone in edale, if anyone knows/is a farmer then id be more than happy to ring them and try and sort somthing but i dont really know how to get in touch

Some of them are small; some allow fires; some are for naturists...

I've camped in a bivvy bag in all sorts of places, arriving under my own steam, usually at dusk, and leaving nothing but flattened grass behind. When necessary, I've asked if I may sleep in a barn, and never been refused. A group of you may raise suspicions, so I would suggest you go down the route of contacting someone who is prepared to make provision for you.

How about Sellafield beach. Wake up with a rosy glow and some hair in your wind. :D

lol when i first saw your link thats what i thought it was, and yea id be happy to bivvy, maybe less possible if we wanted to stay a few days, how would i go about finding a farmer (or landowner) that would let us stay as i really dont no any farmers (and i have done some google searches yet no luck so far)

LLigwi (sp) beach in wales allows camping IIRC usually full of irritating teenagers from merseyside playing dance music from their car stereos til the early hours, such a shame really!

on a different note, Cae Do campsite in wales is amazing, camping almost of the beach and you can have open fires and watch the dolphins swim by!

hmmm tbh they sound annoying to me as well and we cant really travel down to wales anyway (quite expensive to get to), its a shame really hat campsite sounds lovely, but it probs wouldn't allow kids anyway

Thanks

Use the list I pointed you to, and ask for recommendations?

I know you said not Cornwall but it's the place that allows you to do all the things you want. PM me if you want anymore details.
