Hi Guys,

So, when IS the best time in the near future that i should buy my DSLR? On the one hand the sony a300 can be had for effectively £270, and the canon 450d twin lens (tamron 70-300) for an effective £435. But will these prices get better just after xmas or worse?

I'd love to get my equipment at its best price, and i'm prepared to wait until dec 26th/27th sort of time. In the hope a few more quid is knocked off, and i can still claim cashback. But should i be diving in now? Because people are saying the crashing pound means more expensive equipment!

Help! What are you going to do? :bang:

The best time is always about a week after you actually buy it  I'd go with your idea of waiting until 26/27th December - I bought my D300 on the 23rd last year and by the 26th the price had dropped £100

There is always a chance prices will go up, due to the plunging Yen vs £ value.

I think this is unlikely personally, but in these odd times, I wouldn't bet on it!

If you are unlucky like me its always yesterday:shrug:

In this market, with the decreasing value of the £, it may not be worth putting off buying until after christmas, but if trends follow, you'll still save after christmas but these savings may not be as great this year as previous.

You could always wait until after christmas, GO INTO A SHOP and barter the price down.

There was a chap from a retail association the TV last week, his prediction on discount sale was.

Last weeks November - Pre Christmas Sales
First 3 week December - Christmas Sales
End December early January - New Year Sales
Starting February - Closing Down Sales

I think I'd wait as long as possible and then barter

Wait until the next model is due out and buy the older one.

I would always buy off here, you could save hundreds and have some very sharp equipment as well, so is the power of TP

Haha! Cheers everyone, i want to get one for xmas, but would love to start taking pics now to get used to it for the festive period! At the moment there are cashback, vouchers, discounts, and quidco all giving attractive online prices for these cameras. So i'm just reading into which lenses are better now. I would like a new one (probably slightly OCD!)!

I'll keep an eye on the deals this weekend i think and see if the missus will let me pick one up!

Cheers all!

Id say just buy when you have the money to afford it. Unless its a new release and you know it will come down in 2 months or whatever and can save £££s then thats more worth the wait imo.

I think the longer you put it off the hard the decision becomes. Personally, i would set a budget, try a few different brands for fit and purchase after a quick shop around.

I'm toying buying a D700 or a D3 and now the D3x is rumored, decisions decisions..lol

Rob.
