Hello I am new here. I have a lot of old cameras, not digital, cases, lens dark room equipment, eg enlargers etc. and I wonder if there is a market for them and if so what sort of price would they be or is there a museum that would be interested in them. This equipment belonged to my father who died four years ago and I have to find a home for it as I am having to leave the family home having just lost my mother. My father has the cases and instruction books for most of the equipment.

There is always a market for people wanting to get back into film or even start using it, and a darkroom is a great place to start.

Do you know what the equipment is, or have photos of it and some people will be able to identify it and tell you an approximate value.

Yes.. there's a strong market for film cameras and equipment.. and a very friendly section of the forum full of folk that still use it - Film and Conventional.

Whilst demand for film cameras is strong, the values can be weak except for the exceptional or unusual. If you are happy to give a location (nearest town) there might be somone local in the film section able to advise you either in person or direct you towards a local shop/dealer. There are also several advertisers in the back of Amatuer Photographer (weekly magazine, available from supermarkets and newsagents) that say the will purchase complete collections. I can't speak for how close to the true value would be achieved that way though.

Slid over to F&C with a re-direct as the OP is a new member ;)

There certainly is still a market for film gear, and any shop which stocks used equipment would normally be able to make an offer for what you're looking to sell. Of course, the value would depend on what precisely your cameras and lenses are. As for your darkroom equipment, you may be better trying to sell it privately but there may be dealers advertised in photography magazines that would be willing to buy them.

It may be worth having a look at the link below which lists all UK camera dealers. Click on 'used camera specialists' which will list all second-hand dealers and you may find one near to where you live.
