Cameras and airports - advice please

Hi all. I bought a Canon 30D body recently,to pair with a Tamron 28-300VC and a Canon EFS 18-55 IS as a holiday combo. I will be carrying the gear, along with charger, batteries etc. as hand luggage in a Kata DR 465. I presume the bag will be put through a scanner and also presume that the gear and CF cards wont be affected in any way. Am I right about this? A dumb question I agree :bonk:, but I normally drive around France for a holiday and don't usually travel by air. Thanks in advance!:)
 
I just pack my tripod as hold luggage is all, everything else goes as hand luggage.
 
I always put the charger.tripod,cleaning stuff, in my main luggage why lug anything you dont need about, camera and lenses in /batteries/filters/CF cards, my hand luggage ;)
 
Yep agree with all of the above.

Only film could be affected by the new scanners which would cause them to fog.

Best to keep the kit bag tidy too - on the 4 occasions I have taken my camera kit abroad, 2 times they have inspected it after the scanner. It will speed things up if everything inside the bag is neat and tidy.

Because when you get there and your suitcase is lost you could potentially be without all that stuff for thr duration of your stay, the airline will shout you a few pairs of pants but they won't get you a new charger or memory card. I take anything essential to the operation of my camera in my hand luggage!
 
Ive never had a problem jsut asked to switch on and take a photo when throught the scanner.

I presume this is to prove its a working camera not a empty case etc

Which new scanners, please? The new whole-body scanners shouldn't be a problem if you happen to have a roll of film in your pocket as the HPA has assessed that they give us humans a fraction of the annual background radiation dose that we and film are already exposed to; see link.

Otherwise, your baggage (and film) will be scanned as at present and there the advice is not to put your film into your checked baggage and only if your hand baggage will be going through more than five security scans might you have a problem; see this link and this one.
