Beginner Camera upgrade

I am looking to get back into photography, over the last few years I have relied on my phone camera but there are certain limitations to this,

My old dslr is a canon 450d and I have a few lenses as well.

I want to upgrade the camera but I am unsure as to the compatibility of the lenses either newer bodies, at present i cannot afford to upgrade both the body and lenses.

I am keen to have go at macro and iris photography so I need something with more megapixels, the more the better I assume?

My budget for a second hand body is about £500 and preferably compatible with the lenses I already have for the 460d?

Also suggestions on a macro lenses would be appreciated as well,

Probably worth asking, are your lenses crop or full-frame? If you're after better image quality then FF can often (not always) help.

Don't invest too much in a tech that's obsolete.

An 80D or a 7D2 might be a decent upgrade, but later iterations of the lenses you have would be an even better upgrade. Or maybe a 24-105/4L if you have the standard 18-55.
 
Just checking - I assumed you had EF-S lenses (for aps-c sensors) but if you have EF lenses (for full frame) you will have more body options.
 
If it helps choose a body my current lenses are:-

Tamron SP AF XR Di 28-75

Tamron AF Di II 55 – 200

Canon EF 50mm

They all have a red dot on them, does that make them EF fit?
 
I think the 55-200 is probably an APS-C lens (EF-S) rather than full frame so will vignette on an FF body to some extent.
 
Never upgrade your camera. Use the one you've got. That way, you might learn to be a photographer. Which can be a voyage of discovery as well as a worthy task. Consumerism is a drug. Let's have some wholesome fun instead. Run the marathon backwards. You'll be surprised.

The 450d was a decent camera in it's day. Now though it's getting on a bit. As others have said I'd check out an 80d or 90d. Both a lot better than the 450d Come to that a 750d is a big step up from the 450d and cheaper (and way better in low light) plus the controls are near as makes no difference the same.
Any of these should work fine with your lens. Personally I'd suggest you check out a lens in the 17-50 ish range to get a decent wide angle (Sigma make a 17-50 2.8 and a 17-70mm with a good macro ability) these will also work with any of the cameras mentioned

I think I have narrowed it down to either an 80d, or if I push the boat out I could stretch it to either 90d or a 6d mk2 (6d if I decide to go full frame).

I think most of my lenses are EF mount (having a red dot on the lens) which I believe makes them fully compatible with either a crop or full frame sensor?
