Yes
I have been out of the photography circle for a little while now. My trust Canon 20D (which was a replacement for a 300D) decided to died. As I had no funds to replace it after a year I decided to sell up all my camera stuff thinking "if I haven't used it for this long I won't miss it". But I was wrong and now am itching to have a proper camera again.

My budget is the bare minimum and I have been searching EBay for something to do the job. Ideally I am looking at older model cameras, does not have to be anything too serious, just something that takes nodes photos that I can have a bit of fun with.

Before I had Canon but have been looking at Nikon too but know nothing of this range.

I guess what I am asking is what you lovely people would consider to be good choices in the older cameras. Any advice or feedback would be most welcome so I can short list a few to look out for.

Many many thanks in advance.

What's the budget first? And is it just for a body or lenses too?

Would a base spec body be ok or do you want more features?

If your looking at Nikon something like a D80/90 or maybe D200/300?

I would personally head for a used dealer over eBay more likely to get a camera that will work ok. Plus come back if any problems.

Simple answer 40d. Similar enough to the 20d but a bit better in every way.

Basic model is really all I need, have about £150 in the kitty so far (hoping the work Xmas bonus will bump that up a fair bit more). Probably not a very realistic budget at the moment i know. Not a lot I know hence looking at older models and looking in EBay. I dealt with at lease a basic lens that I can then build on kit again from there.

For that I'd say probably a 400D or 450D if you're lucky.
You could get another 20D by the look of things.

I'd suggest raising a bit more cash though.

If possible, a 40d would be perfect and a superb upgrade from the 20d!

Canon 30D for £199 through a dealer, so on the forums abit cheaper and perhaps a 50mm f1.8 or kit lens 18-55mm MkIII to get you started.

Also, park camera's, mifsuds, camtech, london camera exchange, ffordes, at least to give you idea's on the top prices to pay. Would probably avoid eBay for the older gear and stick to the forums

I'm in the same boat, my 20D has died (shutter), not economically to repair :'( but at least I still have the tank of a body in my 1D to keep me going, but miss my 20D, great camera
