No
One gust of wind and bam the camera in in the sea.
Not a weather sealed camera or lens.
I'll put it in some rice when I get home but I fear it and the lens are dead.

Time to see if the insurance (photoguard) is worth the premium.

Yikes.

I had a similar incident in the Lake District several years ago.

Insurance covered it, thankfully.

Hope you get a replacement before Glencoe :)

Cheers.

I have a Canon 1D-x and 16-35 sitting at the bottom of a lake. It does happen. Unlikely your rice will help it, any water will already have started significant internal corrosion...

That's tough luck Mark :(

Not so much the water but sea water and oxidation will cause the damage.

The sage advice years ago was to rinse and immerse totally in fresh water to remove the salt which did the majority of the damage. Having said that, there was a much reduced set of electronics back then and was mainly a case of clean and re-lubricate.

Very unfortunate, sea water will kill it sooner or later ... insurance claim definitely.

I'll still be out £250 as that's my excess.
Now to find the receipt for the lens, the body receipt is easy as I got that off of Amazon.

Had that with my xt1 and 18-55 after I was dive bombed by a gull on southend pier

Quick question regarding making a claim, they want repair estimates, is it even worth the hassle? That's just going to delay they claim and I need this camera for Glencoe in a few weeks.

Surely they know that salt water immersion is effectively a death sentence for electronics! Or do they mean simply (?) a repairers report???

Fuji Service do fixed price repairs, just fill in a few questions on their website and you should get a quote through within a few days

I've used Fiji service albeit for a lens.
I filled in the questionnaire on a Sunday and was given an immediate quote. I got the impression that each piece of gear had a set price regardless of the work needed.
I paid extra for faster turnaround. I posted it out on Monday morning and had it back on Friday.

The Fuji website is quite clear and helpful.

Be aware that some insurance companies will replace the item rather than pay money. Worth bearing in mind if you think about buying one before the pay out.
More then happy for them to do that.

They are auto quoting £130.

Get it sent off, and choose the speedy option. Fuji service really is very good, and you'll get a brand new 12 month warranty on the whole kit, not just the part they repair.

What are the chances of a reliable repair to that sort of salt water exposure?

Don't think they'll repair anything. Just rip the bits out and stick new parts in.

I'm sure that'll cost more then the £500 it'll cost to replace it.

Either way it'll have to wait, don't have the funds for the repair, even if they don't take payment right away, card is maxed out.

I'll try Newton Ellis & Co, i can nip in and see if they'll give me a quote.

What is it? X-T1?
When are you going to Glencoe?
I've got one sat here doing nothing.
I might be prepared to lend it to you subject to usual rules.....you bend, bruise, wet or otherwise trash it and you pay for it.

Really appreciate the offer, very generous of you. However if it comes to it I can use my Canon EOS M3 or even a 5Dmkii a mate has offered to loan me.

Regarding the repair quote, I've requested one from Camera Repair Direct. All I really need if for them to say it's beyond repair :D
