Camera to complement your phone

But you can say that of any camera manufacturer's marketing, none of them will be advertising using SOOC pictures.

Yes. I'm not sure why this is being dissected though, I think we can agree a telephone sensor will need a lot more cleaning and work to bring it up to standard than a FF or medium format usually used for billboards?

Do they ? Anyone here work in upsizing images to billboard size care to comment ?

Are you serious? The laws of physics and known reality should have prevented that question being asked.

Im a firm believer that in good light most camera phones can take a good photo, ive been using my iphone a lot during the summer, but in low(er) light or when point and shoot isnt going to cut it no camera phone will outperform a DSL with the right lens on it.

Even in good light a telephone camera won't outperform even a basic DSLR and kit lens.

That's not to say you won't get a decent image, it just won't *outperform* a DSLR. In fact, a decent high end compact would still blitz it (such as a Sony RX100), as my RX100 did vs my iPhone while travelling. The compact was light and day better.

Exactly. A 'good' photo can be many things, but those that say they can do away with their real cameras are kidding themselves, or are getting exactly what they need from the phone and so dont need a real camera anyway.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that phones are as good a dlsr or something like the rx100 as they not. It really annoys me when I see adverts or reviewers saying the latest phone is dslr quality as they onviously aren’t.

But for a majority of people it’s good enough they don’t need anything else. I’ve seen people take incredible pictures using nothing but a phone. Technically you could pull it apart, too much noise, not enough DR etc, but it doesn’t detract from a good picture. It’s one of those things that togs go on about, it’s not the gear but the photographer that make the picture.

On another note, I got the Pixel 2 too see how good the camera was considering the hype. It’s stella (y) Obviously not dslr quality ;)

This I agree with. In fact because i used my iPhone 6S more than my 80D when i was in Greece i came back and got an iPhone 8Plus. Since ive had it ive taken more shots on that compared to my 5D4 that I normally have with me as well. Of course none are as good as the 5d4 would have taken, but it was much more convenient than using a DSLR most of the time when IQ wasn’t important.

I find I hardly ever use my phone for photography these days (in fact I use it far less than I ever did), when I went travelling the images were just too poor (6s) and my RX100 was actually smaller in my pocket [emoji3]. Only took shots for social media with it.

On another note, I just find telephones a bit soulless and automated, but then that's not a big deal for snap shots / point and click images. And I'm a DOF whore and have a thing for lenses [emoji23]

I'm surprised you used your phone more when you also carried your 5d4 though? Isn't that like owning a high performance car and deciding to take the run about for a drive?
