I have a canon 60d with grip. When I use a big lens e.g 100-400mmL. The camera strap becomes very annoying . Has anyone used other straps ? I see camlink do a few ,what have people used ?

Sun sniper, black rapid and optech do shoulder straps that clip onto the tripod thread and let the camera hang at your hip. Much more comfortable with heavy lenses than a neck strap.

There's also a cheaper version on ebay called Q-strap or quick-strap.

Optech also make much nicer neck straps than the standard canon ones, but to be honest with stuff as heavy as the 100-400 it's not going to sit comfortably on your neck whatever strap you use.

I have been trying and buying different straps with no success until yesturday when I got myself a Black Rapid SR7. Brilliant and reduced my neck problems a lot.

have just bought a black rapid rs4 from someone on this forum, have used it properly for the first time today with my gripped 40D with a sigma 18 - 200 on it, not the lightest of combinations, and its been comfortable

i use the cheap double quick strap from ebay, holds my d300(gripped with my sigma 50-500mm os(3kg) on one side and has had mt d700 with nikon 70-700mm vr (3kg) with no probs at all h6 hours.

I have a BlackRapid RS-7 that I've used with my Sigma 150-500 and it's very comfortable. Although as squishy said, with a heavy lens no matter what strap you use you're going to know you're carrying it. :)

Black Rapid RS-5 & 7. Prefer the latter.

Black Rapid RS-7! I've just got one from Amazon. Takes some getting used to though lol

I've carried a 7D & 70-200 f2.8 with a Black Rapid RS4 for about 4 hours at a time, without any problems, a big improvement over the standard Canon strap.

I made my own, cost me about £6/7 :D Obviously won't be as nice as the properly made ones but it does the job and it does hold the weight fine. And tested it by letting it 'drop' over the bed.

I've had an Optech Pro strap, Blackrapid RS4, Sun Sniper Steel strap and am now on a Sun Sniper Dual Harness.

The Optech was good until I got a 100-400 for my gripped 50D when I found the weight made my neck sore. I sold that and got the RS4, that worked fine. When I got the 1D I got the Sun Sniper steel as a stopgap until the dual harness came in.

I would have stuck with the RS4 and Sun Sniper Steel if I hadn't wanted to carry two bodies at once.

I looked at cheaper copies but with several thousand pounds worth of camera hanging from them I didn't want to risk it.

Have only just bought my camera and have an ever growing list of stuff. Just added the black rapid rs-7 to my amazon wish list. I'm sure after a few more days out this will go up the list a bit as my first full day out yesterday and the Canon one was :shake: !

Thanks for the advice

been using a black rapid now for about 6 months. it does get a little getting used to but wouldnt go back to the conventional type strap.

I have both the Op/Tech pro (a nice neck strap) and the Op/Tech Dual harness - which is similar to the quick strap that scottthehat modelled earlier in the thread.

The difference using the shoulder harness style strap makes is huge - I usually have just a single body on mine (it works equally well with 1 or 2 bodies) and have no discomfort even after several hours.

Since it uses the same connectors as the Op/Tech pro, I can use that when I just want a simple strap and won't have the camera out for long.
