I take lots of images of runners and I usually hold the camera in my hand when running from one spot to another. I've seen camera straps that go over your head and the camera is able to slide up and down this. (Crappy description) Can't remember who makes them. Who does and are they any good? It would be useful when I'm out walking the dog on the lead too.

Do you mean something like the BlackRapid range of straps - camera hangs by your side and slides up the strap when you want to take photos?

Some people love them but I never got on with mine - tried a Peak Design Strap and that works a lot better for me when moving around - can rapidly shorten and tighten for moving about, and lengthen for comfort - whole strap rotates around your body rather than the camera sliding up the strap.

After surveying the range of different sling straps that let you slide the camera around I eventually settled on the JOBY because I preferred the much better engineered swivel joint and the ability to quickly change the strap length so you can cinch it up tight if you want to run, scramble through bushes, or whatever. https://joby.com/camera-straps

Another vote for the Joby sling strap here. I bought one a couple of months ago and love it. Really well designed and built and about half the price of a BlackRapid strap.

Sling straps are good.... I would avoid the black rapid, I have one and it is good, but expensive and the clip is wearing out at an alarming rate!

I am looking at a cheap one on amazon and will treat them as disposable!

One thing to look out for.... don't put anything in your pocket where you camera rests - I had my canon 1d and 70-200 2.8 on recently and my phone now has a lovely series of dents in the back - through a lifeproof case!

I use the Optech strap

https://optechusa.com/utility-strap.html

I have used Optech straps on binoculars, telescopes, tripods and cameras since 1986, and have amassed a collection of different bits and pieces, with my original strap still in use. The clips aren't as neat as some of the other options, but they are standard sizes so they also attach to rucksacks etc, and some other makes. They are also a bit cheaper than the alternatives. They are also a bit confusing as so many options are available :-(

Well worth a look.

I had my Black Rapid for a few days - then sold it! I did apologise to the buyer, but he insisted that he wanted it.

There was no way my gear was going to be relying on BR to keep it from falling! Made my own FAR better.
