Yes
I'm looking for a good camera strap that doesn't involve using the tripod mount as the anchor point and doesn't have quick release. Basically a good old fashioned strap. Everywhere I look they all have quick release clips or are mounted to the bottom of the camera. Hoping someone has some good recommendations for something like this.

Personally I use OpTech neoprene straps but they all seem to have quick release type buckles on them but it would be easy enough to sew them up to avoid any accidental releases.

This is what I find so frustrating. These quick releases effectively add a weak point to a strap for the sake of convenience... and I really don't want that. Maybe I'm just the only one :'(

Whilst Carryspeed straps, have quick release buttons, they do have a system that means you have to hold and press to release, thus avoiding unwanted release.

Unfortunately, for your purposes, their straps still attach to the tripod mount.

Thanks John, Nod.

Perhaps I'll have to do what has already been suggested and modify one of the quick release style straps.

you can get some llittle velcroy type stripes that go around the clip.
i tried a loop by itself and tugged as hard as i could, didnt move at all.

Araldite the quick releases together, can't see them pulling apart then

Optech sling and a set of their 'Secure-it's" (a Velcro strap). Job done. Or use zip ties - even more secure.

Think tank straps - old fashioned and indestructible. No QR or tripod attachments. Premier Ink or Speedgraphic stock them.

The zip ties is a great idea! Thanks.

You're welcome! I used them when I went to Cuba. It looked a little odd (I only had white ones) but it did the job.

I needn't have bothered though - probably the safest place I've ever been!

Op/Tech and velcro. But don't buy the official velcro, just use normal velcro - much cheaper.

i think there "mushroom" type of velcro or some other fancy type of velcro replacement, so its better than normal velcro, theres no aggressive hook side.

you can probably get that type cheap too. but tbh i hard ever use em :/

What specifically about the quick release are you concerned with KayJay?

I use an Optech strap but found that the strap gets in the way when shooting portrait. So in the end I attached it to the tripod mount using one of those Black rapid type screws.

The release clips are incredibly strong. I actually have a video on Youtube of me swinging 6kg from a single loop fastener and the strap didn't suffer any ill effects at all. If my memory serves me correct the Optech strap is rated to carry 60kg. So a DSLR isn't really going to be an issue.

I am trying out the Kata C-Strap DL, no quick release, and they attach to the camera lugs, at side of the camera. They also do a version with quick release.

They are. I have a set for my optech but I only use them if I am going somewhere there might be light fingered people. They can however be fiddly to fit on some of the connectors if the leather is a bit thick.

I use the Op/Tech EZ Comfort straps personally and I've found them to be very good. They're a bit like the basic straps that usually come with a lot of cameras, but better made and more comfortable.

another vote for optech using the twin harness

Hi there, I just don't like the introduction of weak points on camera straps... the quick release is not something I'm needing in my camera strap. I've bought the basic Optech one for £8 and it's perfect for what I need; all black and comfortable with large weights. I'll probably get a couple more of those. I'm fussy that's all :D

:plusone:

All I want from a strap is to be subtle, sturdy and stay on my shoulder.
For this I find the ThinkTank straps work well for me. Also available in two very subtle colour variations, which makes ID-ing cameras easier as well.

What I don't want from a strap is to look like some special forces assault team member or an advertising billboard!

Each to their own tho'.

Cheers,
Tony

The basic OpTech E-Z Comfort strap does not have a quick release buckle LINKY

The 'Nature' colour looks a bit like camo / leaf pattern.

This is the one I went for in the end. Surprisingly light also and no visible logos / branding.

But make sure when you trim the loose ends of the cable ties off you make a nice neat job of it otherwise you'll end up scratching your face on the sharp ends.

Yes I noticed just after I posted it :D

I have used them for years, comfortable and secure, not that I use a strap that often

Optech straps are ok, but too broad for me, Think Tank are good, with swivels or not, at the minute I am using Matin Straps made in Korea, you can get them with quick release or without. The Kata straps I tried were rubbish.
