has anybody got any preferances on camera straps or those that go round your hand. any problems with either.I Seem to get cluttered with camera strap and tripod just wondering would them that go round the hand be any easyer to use in the long run.

Take a look at the Black Rapid system, awesome piece of kit.

Ian

I just use the normal strap, but its twisted a few times around my wrist so its still secure

Black rapid systems are fantastic, comfortable and practical, the only downside is that they are a little costly for what they are.

However, I cannot imagine going back to a neck strap now.

You seem to have two threads asking the same question???

First thing is remove the makers strap. Go to a certain auction website and you can pick up a thinner strap. If you look you will find canon used to do a thin strap that widened to just over an inch in the shoulder neck area all in one section(no sliding pads),perfect. These thinner straps don't get in the way like the makers straps.

Copied and pasted from your other thread.

I recently bought a Black Rapid RS7Curve with the Brad strap, and would have no hesitation in recommending it. I use it to carry my D300s with battery grip and 70-200mm f2.8 lens and don't even notice it's there it's so comfortable.

I have never used the type that straps around the hand but I should imagine it would be very uncomfortable after a short while just hanging there.

The thing is when you use the round the neck straps it can be easier to change lenses as you have both hands free.

I've used an Optech Neoprene Wrist Strap on my 50D for the past year or so, that wraps around the wrist and connects to one side of the body in similar way to standard neck strap.

While it has been fairly comfortable with 50mm f1.8 and standard canon kit lens, since borrowing a 24-70 f2.8 and using it my arm was a little uncomfortable after a couple of hours use. Also as Kestral indicates it can be a little more difficult to swap lenses without both hands.

I've got a Black Rapid RS-Sport on it's way to give me a hand back and allow me to wander freely.

I've got 2 black Q straps, 1 each for my 7D and 5D2. Very comfortable, nice padding and a handy pocket for memory card and the most important thing, it's easy to remove quickly should the need arise. Depending on which lens I've got on I sometimes have it on the lens mount and sometimes on the body, so a rapid change is sometimes needed.

And I use the Camera Slingers dual strap, which is pretty perfect for what I do (either weddings or in the countryside)
