I was doing a wedding today at the South Lodge Hotel in Horsham, Sussex which is quite an upmarket venue. During the afternoon I put my D300 down and it was gone within 20 minutes even though we were never more than about 15-20 yards away. At first I thought maybe a member of staff had moved it but myself and Tony (Fraggle101 from TP who was my assistant) searched high and low to no avail.

The hotel was reasonably busy because of Father's Day but where we were was reasonably quiet apart from the wedding guests and there was an event where there was the unveiling of a new Ferrari. The hotel staff have been very good and I will be waiting until the morning before I report it to the police in the slim chance that it turns up this evening. Even worse than losing the camera (and grip) is that the lens on there is the 85mm f/1.4 from Lenesesforhire. :'( The final straw is that there were 150-200 images from the wedding which obviously cannot be replaced.

I must admit it was a blow and I noticed that it affected my concentration as I had a minor lighting issue a short while later and was struggling to resolve it or come up with an alternative.

So all in all it's been a pretty **** day and I need to rant against these thieving scum****s.

Oh ****, thats really harsh. Gutted for you :(

that is terrible, no wonder you need to rant:eek:

Sorry to hear that.Hope you get it sorted and it turns up OK

thieving little ********, sorry to hear your bad news, hopefully it will come back to its rightful owner.

That is awful - nothing more I can say - hope everything gets resolved! And I hope the thief (ves) get caught... :bat:

Thanks everyone.

Oh god Colin, so absolutely gutted for you. Sue has just asked if there is cctv at the venue. Will insurance pay out for the camera (I know the images are irreplaceable)?

I've already checked that and there is no camera coverage from where it was actually taken but there is some at the front of the hotel so the IT manager is going to review them tomorrow to see if any body walked out with it - it's not exactly a discreet item.

Hopefully the insurance will pay out but I will have double excess to pay - one fore my insurance and one for the Lenses for hire insurance. :(

Jesus, that's real bad news :(

I know of the South Lodge and it ain't the kind of place you'd think that this type of thing would happen.

"wnakers"...... may they get four punctures in their corsa!!!

That's a b****r, Colin. We had the same thing happen (although with much less valuable kit) at a family wedding a few years ago. It appears someone simply wandered in and mingled, each side of the family thought they were with the other.

With a bit of luck some do-gooder has simply put it somewhere safe and you'll get it back on Monday, but if not better post a note of the serial numbers so we can keep a look out for them...

Oh no! That's terrible news - so sorry for you! I hope you get something sorted out soon.

Blimey. Wouldn't expect that at South Lodge! I was there 3 weeks ago for dinner. It's a lovely venue for a wedding (bet it costs a bomb).

Thanks everyone.

So did you get enough pics with the D3?

Must say, we're always giving advice to people to have a second body in case one goes wrong, never really thought abotu one getting nicked!

Really sorry about that Colin. There are some thieving little scumbags about, we both know that!

I locked my gear in the porters room at our hotel yesterday while we took the B&G out for some shots around the grounds. It felt a bit like overkill at the time but glad I did it.

CCTV, check the local cash outlets and ebay, the usual stuff. It's just a shame they don't come with built in detonators you could activate!

so sorry about that :( surely someone saw this?

Sorry to hear this Colin :(

Thieving b*****s should be hung up.
Have you (or any of the family) checked with most of the guests, see if they saw anything?

Might be worth getting the B&G to check all your pictures to see if there is anyone in them they don't recognise, just in case you snapped the culprit without knowing it.

I feel for you Colin,

On a lighter note, check your images for shifty looking t***Ts.

Keep your fingers crossed it turns up.

Filthy theiving SCUM.

That is such a low thing to do - apart from the loss of the kit itself (which is obviously carp for all concerned) the poor bride & groom lose some of their pictures. I really ****ing HATE theives.

I've been mugged, my sister has been burgled, you hear all the time about things like this. I just don't know what they think gives them the right. It really makes me angry.

Hope you get your things back,

Fi xx

Bloody Hell Colin I'm so sorry mate - this was always my nightmare with wedding jobs. :(

That's pretty disgusting. I hope whoever has the camera looks through those shots from the wedding and feels enough guilt to return the camera somehow. Pretty shocking to hear stuff like this happen in places where you'd least expect it.

OUCH! That's quite possibly my worst nightmare. I really feel for you, mate.:(

I would do it now Colin, sooner rather than later give no time for the trail to go cold.

David.
