Wasn't sure on where exactly to put this...feel free to move it if you need to :)

I'm going on a little family trip to London next week and was wondering if anyone could recommend some camera shops? I'm looking for an upgrade and wouldn't mind checking out the prices when i'm down.

Thanks! :D

Grays of westminster graysofwestminster linky or Microglobe microglobe linky I've been to microglobe & they seem pretty helpful - quite a bit of stock to try out...

GOW are a bit expensive but do have a good rep thou....

Then again there is the likes of places like Jessops & Jacobs....

Of all the places to check prices, London would be my last choice.

That said, I've found the staff in Jessops pretty helpful, both in the Strand and Strutton Ground stores, and got decent service in The Camera Exchange on The Strand. There's lots of stuff up on Tottenham court Road, but I've no first hand experience.

Screw shopping though, you're wasting precious shooting time, there's soooooo much to photograph! :D

I agree that the staff in Jessops can be helpful but in some branches the staff seem to have less expertise than others. The people in the Strand branch seem to know what they're talking about but the one in New Oxford Street seems to have got some of their staff from Dixons. I go across the road to Jacobs; everyone in there seems to know their stuff. They also have a second-hand cupboard round the back of the shop.

I would plan a trip to the British Museum as there are several camera shops a short walk from there.

There is Jessops in Tott Ct Rd and a Jacobs directly opposite across the road. Just round the corner nearer the British Museum are York Cameras at 18 Bury Place, and the Leica Centre in Pied Bull yard (BM end of Museum Street) and Microglobe, and The Camera Cafe at 44 Museum St.

The Leica Centre, York Cameras and Microglobe area all in the same complex off Bury Place even if their addresses would suggest otherwise.

Just found this

Hope you have a good day out. Don't miss the British Museum, it's one of my favourite places to photograph in this area.

Grays are Nikon specialists, aren't they?

My 2p - Camera World on Wells Street near Oxford Circus. Keen pricing and their staff seem to know their stuff.

+1

Really good service and often better stock than the much larger Jessops/Jacobs nearby. Last time I was there they had a couple of well priced used Sony lenses and flashes.

Exactly. He'll be needing somewhere that sells Canon cameras, not Nikons.

but seriously though, he didn't mention changing systems as part of that deal.
