Yes
On my camera, I've always had a tempered glass screen protector on the back. I felt safe with it fitted but always thought that trying to use the screen to zoom in to ascertain focus, it altered the screen clarity, and therefore, focus could be affected.
Do others find this or is it the quality of glass that matters? Mine was a FOTGA screen protector which was purchased off Ebay.
Now I have a new camera and wondering if I should fit one or not.

I’ve got a tempered glass one on my D7500 fits perfectly and doesn’t take away from the clarity of the screen,
I like the added peace of mind that my £1500 investment won’t be damaged,
Got a pair of them on amazon for £6,
Had one on my D3200 since ownership 5 years ago,
In my opinion the yes definatley but each to their own
Suppose it’s like a phone screen protector
I’d rather replace a £5 protector than a couple hundred screen,
As far as focusing goes on the screen I can’t tell any difference, but I ain’t a pro and maybe can’t see any difference,
I was using my D7500 whilst I was waiting for my protectors and in my opinion there’s no difference
Just me anyway.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: I learned it the hard way:
Sony camera that I didn't put no screen protector = scratched and impossible to polish out screen.
Canon - screen protector and top LCD protector too from before the first shutter actuation - camera looks like new after three years of use.

Just because you put one on does not mean you have to leave it on full time. Its just common sense to be fair

Pretty sure the glass ones break if/when you try to remove them, unless it was just me:rolleyes:

Just make sure it is a good quality one, such as Giottos; not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Oh I see, my mistake. I have bought dozens of used cameras and never seen a stick on protector.

The only really bad screen I seen personally had ben used professionally since 2007.

So, I was gong to ask about this myself after the back of my Canon 5D4 was lightly scratched by an Allen key falling out of the zip space in the lid of my ThinkTank bag.

One recommendation here for Giottis - are there any others that people recommend? And how do they come off if you scratch the back of them? I Don't want something that leaves damage behind. Thanks.

Used Larmor and GGS found them ok. Had 1 protector chip on the edge a couple of years ago, Quite easy to get off, heat a little with hair drier then prised a corner and used some thin fishing line in between camera and protector. m Still broke the protector though

yes my last one had to be scraped off, carefully, in many bits.
Wow!

So using a screen protector means you risk serious damage to the screen removing it.

Flipping genius

Never used any screen protector, in 15 years of DSLR use I’ve had one lightly scratched screen, which bizarrely never affected the performance of the camera (y)

I dont use one, primarily as I got fed up witht he stad Nikon plastic offering just filling up with crud betweeen it and the screen....
I also try to really carefull when putting the camera down.
Last summer, in Rome, I saw guy put a 7d/L lens down, only for it to clatter down the rock he used......

I would strongly support using screen protectors. Choose the right one and removal is easily done without damage. Do some research before splashing the cash.

I use one on canon 1100d and it doesn't alter the image seen on the back screen to the image seen through the view finder. Not that I use live view that much

I rather like the old Nikon clip-on screen protectors, which are very easy to fit and remove. But with the move to touchscreens, these will soon be as obsolete as the databack. I have an Expert Shield protector on the X100T that'c clear enough for me not to notice it in normal use.

Yes, always had screen protectors.
It’s cheaper to replace a screen protector than and actual screen. :D

Only time I've ever had damage to rear screen was the glass protectors on them, smashed twice, luckily no damage to the screen itself, so no I don't use
them anymore and never had a problem

But had you not had the protector on them?

I never used to have them until the 5D4 and as it happens I managed to do this.

I managed to smash one of the screen protector today. I went to pick up one of the bodies but didn't notice the strap was trapped under my pelican case so it pulled it back out of my hand and slingshot it back to the case, the screen hit the corner of the peli case and this happened.

Impact point is on the top edge at where the black boarder is. Most of the cracks are due to me peeling it off.

But the camera is fine so money well spent !

But had you not had the protector on them?

They would have been fine as they have since, before you say it, it was a cheap one but a slight know cracked it, if it had been a hard knock
no doubt both the protector and screen would have smashed.
TBH I worried more about damage removing them

Mine peeled off in 1 piece as you can see, leaving no residue.

Hmm... Well, not sure what to do about that. I imagine having a protector would impact the efficiency of the touchscreen. Can anybody tell me about that please?

I'm curious as to how they work with touch screens as I have an 80D but no protector, never even thought about it really as I can just swivel the screen inside out.

I use a protector - I think Expert Shield is the make - bought one at The Photography Show and have since fitted them to all my cameras. The instructions for fitting it are hilarious. Once fitted you can't tell it's there and you can still use the touch screen. It's not a great smooth fit on the curved top screen of the Canon 5Div, but I keep it on there. They're made of plastic and are quite robust - come with a lifetime guarantee if I remember rightly.

Don't know about cameras (none of mine have touch screens...) but I have used screen protectors on all my smartphones and they make no difference to how the screen works, so I can't imagine it would be any different with a camera screen.
