This is probably a weird request, but I'm looking at setting myself up with some new Nikon gear. I went into Jessops today to order the 18-135mm VR and 35mm for my D40 wanting to buy on hire purchase interest free period, but they've stopped offering this since falling out with Barclays apparently (convenient).

Does anyone know of any other retailers that offer this service?

IIRC Jessops bank is HSBC - Telegraph

Anyhoo, there's a 'credit crunch' at the moment but WE is probably your best bet.

Jessops finance was firstly with Clydesdale, and then with Barclay's. I don't think it was a falling out with Barclay's that stopped them doing it.

I have, over the past few months, not had a single finance application go through. They're denied for pretty much everyone. It's probably Barclay's saying "It's not worth it."

WE is your best bet. Alternatively an interest free credit card.

I think Calumet might still be doing their "Buy Now Pay Later" deal, you'd have to doublecheck though...

Have you thought about a 9-12 months 0% interest free credit card, putting the purchase on it and then pay slowly each month?

That would be a better idea definitely, I've been meaning to move over my current credit card to another provider for a while as its at quite a bad rate (with no benefits), will look into that instead.

In the end i shouldn't be taking out another line of credit anyway, the credit card should be enough!

Thanks guys, will have a look at the other shops anyway!

Whoa!! If you move your credit card balance to a 0% card make sure both balance transfers and purchases are 0% or you'll end up getting badly stung. If they charge interest for anything, they will put any payments towards the 0% balance first, leaving the interest bearing sum to accrue interest charges at the high rate.

I bought my camera from WE on their 12 month interest free, back then they used Clydesdale bank but I believe they changed to Barclays?. The way it worked was you took out an agreement to buy the camera with the understanding that if it's not paid off in 12 months the agreement becomes a high interest fixed monthly payment deal and you don't get any reminders that the 0% term is coming to an end, so make sure to pay it off in time.

Warehouse Express are still doing interest free..
