Hi all, new here and not a pro like most of you guys sound.
Does anyone know where I would get my lovely little Kodak V610 digital camera repaired?
No one seems to want to fix it. I have 2, both with the same fault.
Failing that, where could I find a service manual so I could have a go at stripping it down myself?

Many thanks in advance,
John

Hmmm! A 12 year old unusual consumer grade camera where 2 have the same fault.

I had a Google gander for info:-
Some posts that mention the same error code. NB what is the fault and error code that you have experienced?
No clearly available service manual.
No repairs service comes up that lists the V610
Note ~ even should you find a repairer willing to undertake the repair, it may not be possible or economically viable to do so!

PS this is a mainly UK forum with some international members.....we cannot presume where you are, so any suggestions that might come up will irrelevant unless you state which country you are in ???

give these people a call, if they can't fix it no one can. I have used them and been to their workshop. it may be too old to repair??? or dare I say not worth the cost having it repaired

Also if you could get it repaired the fault may come back not long afterwards. A new Nikon coolpix A10 cameras is only £83 and about the same for a canon compact camera. Your repair would cost more

worth noting

In January 2012, Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. In February 2012, Kodakannounced that it would stop making digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames and focus on the corporate digital imaging market.

so you won't be able to get a new replacement part anyway

Which error/problem do you seem to be having? And where have you asked to fix it?

It’s tough having a camera that is no longer particularly popular in that service centres aren’t willing to take them on as they can’t source parts. The best you may be able to hope for is sourcing another camera in spares/repairs condition and hope it doesn’t have the same issue as yours so you can interchange parts.

That said, you need to be careful with what you’re doing; the capacitors used for flash can be dangerous. If the capacitors are large enough they can be life threatening.

Unless its something ridiculously simple the cost of repair will be uneconomic, and that assuming parts are available and service information is accessible.

I don't know what Kodak charge on an hourly basis, but Canon charge £ 84 per hour, and one hours labour would have bought almost 4 recently sold on ebay advertised as supposedly fully working, including one described as new and never used.

Firstly, thanks so much for the replies!! I really appreciate it!

The fault is E45 which is the autofocus lens jamming. The only suggestions I found online were banging it on a tabletop (not very technical!). I tried this with the spare one to no effect.

It's odd... There's something about the way this camera takes photos that I love. Also, with the twin lenses its zoom is off the charts compared to anything else I've encountered.

I'm actually in northern Spain but have sent one camera off to the USA for repair and that lasted a good 5 mins after I got it back!

Apparently it's a little cog that slips. Probably plastic rubbish of course. If I knew how to successfully dismember it, I'd be more than happy making a new part.

Thanks for the warning about the flash capacitors. I have messed around with electrics and electronics all my life so am aware of the dangers.

I find it strange that I can't find any teardown videos or workshop manual anywhere. If all else fails, I guess I'll just start pulling it apart and see what happens.

I'll contact the company from the link now and let you know...

Thanks again,
John.
