Yes
Do camera repair companies (fixation etc) share details with insurance companies? I was on a trip recently and my D810 blew over and the lens ripped itself from the body. The insurance company wrote it off saying beyond economical repair.

Are you asking if the insurance company took advice from a repairer? I would think they would.

Or are you asking if the repairer will tell the insurer that you have had the written-off camera/lens repaired? The repairer will have no way of knowing the kit had been subject to an insurance claim and if they suspected, they could not know which insurer was involved.

Presumably the insurers had some repair estimates to base their decision on?

would they not let you get your own estimate for repair?

I explained the damage and sent pictures expecting it to be sent away for assessment and they wrote it off without looking at it.

That would be the second one :) thanks for the reply.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them wanting it before replacement/payment.

Ok, i will keep it as a reminder on being stupid and letting it blow over, i'm sure i am not the first to let that happen ;)

Nope, just last week I watched in horror as a tog let his D500 and 500 f4 VR crash to the concrete floor ... like yours it ripped the lens mount off the camera and damaged the lens, a very expensive error! :(

If the insurers have written it off and you've been paid they won't give a stuff what happens to the camera. Get a quote and get it fixed if reasonable. Just remember if you bust it again you won't ever be able to claim again as it will go on the insurance database.
