Hi everyone

Just looking for some purchasing advice, as i'm really not sure where to look for what i want.

I love taking pictures and have an SLR. I'm not sure how to use it really and wanted to get more out of it, so i've booked a photography lesson in the near future.

However, the SLR i have is super heavy and i'm looking for something new that'll take as close to SLR quality shots as possible, whilst being light enough to carry around the zoo, or a day out or something, preferably small enough to fit in a small bag too. I went on a what camera kind of website and it suggested bridge cameras?

Not sure if what i'm asking for exists, or not, but would appreciate any advice. Budget-wise, around £200 but if there's something good that's cheaper, that'd be awesome.

I found bridge cameras to be Ok at still objects but utterly useless at anything fast moving , bridge cameras look like a small SLR so not much size saving though they tend to be a lot lighter, if you want something small then a compact with a big zoom may be more suitable , something like the panasonic TZ range , prices for all budgets
 
Attend the lessons, use the slr and save for something else for a while.
Attendig the lessons and getting to know what youve got will help you set up your priorities and knowing what to look for, what to awoid and properly also how much you really need to spend.
 
What camera are you using that is "super heavy"? Pro cameras and Medium Format cameras can get a bit weighty but most DSLR cameras are 800 grams or less - shouldn't be a biggie?
 
Being an SLR (and I assume you mean a digital camera not a film one?) is no guarantee of getting the best image quality and there are non SLR cameras that equal or exceed the image quality you'll get from a digital SLR but the £200 budget could be a problem especially if you want a camera and lens combination but buying used kit would help to stretch the budget.

There's no problem finding quality cameras that'll fit in a small bag and personally I'd suggest you look at interchangeable lens mirrorles cameras from Panasonic, Olympus and Sony and a way forward could be to check what's available new and used at what price on internet retailers web sites and then Google your way to some YouTube reviews. A weeks reading up on what's available and at what price might be a big help and I'd definitely suggest waiting until you have a clear idea of what you want and what you want to take pictures of.
