Hi all,

Recently I've on two or three occasions now I've noticed my Camera just completely switches off - even though there is battery life left, sometimes just leaving it a couple of minutes and then turning it on again brings it back.

The most recent time it happened it just wouldn't come back on, went home, left it and then turned it back on the next day and it came on fine.

Each time it's been mounted on a tripod and I don't know if this has anything to do with it but it has been relatively cold - but surely it's built to withstand the cold air of the British Winter?

Is my Camera simply on it's way out?

Maybe being on a tripod is putting pressure on the battery contacts?

May be worth repeating the exercise on a tripod and gently moving the camera around or screwing the tripod bush into the camera a little to see if it turns off again.

That's where I would start.

What's the camera in case someone else has had this issue?

Extreme cold will affect battery performance and re-warming may return it to life ... not saying this is your issue but something to consider.

Have you tried more than one battery, and have you cleaned the battery contacts?

Sounds like a failing battery to me. The cold will effect battery performance and if the battery is getting on a bit it maybe this won't help.

You haven't said if it is an OEM or 3rd party battery. It could just be a duff battery.

I had this problem with a couple of older Nikon batteries I owned several years ago. They were about 2/3 charged when I left home before an early morning shoot on the coast one winter, got around 30 shots and would pack up. Got home and they worked perfectly !!! Ended up buying a brand new battery for use on cold mornings.
