Hi y'all

I am dipping my toe back into the photography world after a few years lay off.

Not really sure whats currently good or not for the price that I can afford.

Generally what is more important, having an all singing all dancing camera and kit lens or a slightly lower spec camera with a better lens.?

My budget is circa £800

Looking at;

Panny G80 with 20mm 1.7, / 12-60 3.5-5.6 / 45-150 4-5.6

or Panny G80 with 12-60 2.8 - 4

or Olympus OM-D E M1 Mark 2 with Panny 12-60 3.5-5.6

Looking to do a bit of street/documentary and family/walkabout/dog and maybe some birds/sports. Weather sealing would be nice just for peace of mind?

Any alternatives I should be looking at?

Cheers

Fuji !! Great cameras with exceptional lenses

Fuji XT-2 and an 18-135 would be my choice. Not familiar with the Micro 4/3 system.

Its do able if you shop around

2nd hand, yes. An extra £50 or so would help but you should be able to find a good/excellent body and lens for the £800 with a little patience.

Squeeze in a LUMIX G9 and maybe the 12-60 or 25 1.7. LUMIX G9 is The Best micro 4/3 I’d say.

Cheers guys.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Yup, but no good for BIF...

A Sony A7 and Sony 35mm f2.8 can be had a smidgen under £800 used. An additional £50 would get you an A7II and Sony 35mm f2.8. Or, just get the Sony A7 or A7II and a bag full of film era primes and a dumb adapter.

In Panasonic MFT land I prefer the RF style bodies. The Panasonic 45-150mm is a good lens but the 20mm f2.7 is slow to focus and the Olympus 17mm f1.8 is IMO a better all round lens. The 20mm is very compact though, that's one thing for it.

How about GX80, about £200.
Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8, about £350.
Panasonic 45-150mm, about £120.
Olympus 17mm f2.8, about £230.
Total = about £900.

Good luck choosing.

what about om-d-1 mk1 rather than mk2, oly 12-40 pro.

Mpb at moment could pick that pair up for around £550 and then an oly or pana 40-150 ish for £100-150.

Nice kit (y)

I've got .... GX80, Pana 12-60, Pana 45-150, Pana 25mm

plus other lenses, Pana and Pana/Leica, but the above 3 lenses are beauts and my most-used.

@moojii .... the G80 and the GX80 are the same, but the GX80 is smaller and lighter, has a tilt up/down screen as opposed to the out-the-side-swivel type of the G80. The GX80 is in many ways more discrete, better for street/documentary/walkabout.

The G80 is better for video, with more features in that area.

I have...

GX9, GX80 and GM5.
Olympus 9-18mm, 17, 25 and 45mm f1.8's.
Panasonic 14mm f2.5 and 20mm f1.7, 12-35mm f2.8, 14-42mm G Vario, 45-150mm and 100-400mm.

I don't really used the primes or standard zooms these days but I do use the 45-150 and 100-400mm now and again. I keep thinking of selling up (or trying to) or maybe just keeping one camera and a couple of lenses but then I think that even if I only use a lens once a year it's paid its way.
