Hey guys and girls...

Just realised I havent used my camera in a few weeks (sorry, please dont flame me for it :p ) - and just put the batteries in the chargers to charge them up. So it got me wondering - if you dont plan on using the camera for a few weeks should you take the batterys out or are they advanced enough now that it doesnt matter?

Im talking about 'proper' camera batteries, not AA's.

Regards, James

I'd take the battery out.
Manual for mine advises removing batt & card if camera will not be used for a week.

I am sure it will be in your manual somewhere.

I take my battery and card out every time I get home and put the camera away. There is a very slight current drain from batterys even when whatever they are powering is switched off.

Read a manual? dont be silly :p

Yeah I noticed that - not really an issue as I normally charge up the batterys always the night before I plan to shoot. I was merely curious if the batterys would start to leak or damage the connections inside in anway if they were left in there for too long.

I always leave mine in, there is nothing worse than running for the camera to get a shot of "the elephant in the garden" then realising you've not got a battery in it :D

Me too, though the elephants are rare in these parts and my "oh b****r" moments tend to focus more towards the wife when she's had one too many.

Having said that, despite being gripped and batteries lasting for weeks at a time, would still make a point of charging them the night before a planned outing.

I leave em sat in the camera, in the charger, plugged in, whatever. Missus even put one on shelf in kitchen (above radiator) once. So far no leakage, or fires, or other mishaps! :D

The night before an outing I charge all nine of them :D

9? christ :p - got as many chargers as you do batteries?

I tend to keep them in the grip otherwise I forget them like when I just had the 1 battery for a 5 hour gig in bad lighting, finished the night with about 5% left :p

After each outing I recharge them so they just need 'topping up' the night before + I've got 2 x Canon chargers :D

I find the batteries discharge faster if left in the grip, it's probably the battery switching electronics 'leaking'
