Stupidly I left my camera and bag on the Southern Railway service from Milton Keynes to South Croydon at 10.30 this morning. We left the train at Clapham Junction, realised the bag was still on board but by then the train had left the platform. Chased the train down to east croydon in a faster train but by then the bag had gone; it hadn't been handed into lost property by this evening.

The bag is a Lowepro Runner 200 in black and olive; the camera is a Canon 7D, 2 x canon lenses, a 430 flash unit plus spare batteries and memory cards.

If any forum users in South London get offered/hear of such items offered for sale cheap I would appreciate a message to that effect or please contact the Police. The bag was taken between Wandsworth Common, Balham, Streatham Common, Norbury, Thonton Heath and Selhurst as these were the stations between Clapham and East Croydon.

Reward for the safe return, I'll collect from you.

Sorry to hear about your lost gear but i fear someones xmas has come early !

I hope it gets handed in but won't hold my breath..

Do know the serial numbers of the camera/lenses? Might be worth keeping an eye on eBay between now and Christmas. Someone may well be about to try and earn a few bob to fund their present buying.

I feel your pain. Hope, by some miracle, you do get it back.

Fortunately I do have the serial number of the camera and at least 1 of the lenses - the more expensive one - so I can confirm whether its mine or not. I'm glad I decided against taking my 100-400 L series with me today as it was too heavy. Just waiting to see if my insurance will cover me (fingers crossed)

What a bummer! :(

Is there any chance of any CCTV from anywhere? Shouldn't be difficult to zip through given you know the times & places.

It may well be worthwhile waiting a day or so and again checking with lost property Ray.
IIRC a lot of lost property ends up at Liverpool Street Station, your camera bag may be 'in transit' there.
Worth a try, fingers crossed.

Southern Railways send all theirs to Victoria, already spoken to them and they'll call within 14 days if it turns up.

Thats what I was hoping for, however Southern Railway staff at the stations were not very helpful, hopefully I'll get a better reception tomorrow when I go back.

Good news Ray.

Still hope they find the b'stard that has it!

Sad news but good outcome with the insurance coming through

Isn't there a sticky somewhere on here for lost/stolen gear where you can post the details? Thought there was but then again I may just be going bonkers.

Good result out of a bad situation Ray.

Out of interest, who are you insured with?

Really sorry to hear what has happened.

Check with the lost property at both ends of the line.
Call the Transport Police and your local police station. Be sure to get a crime number, you will need this for insurance.

Best of luck. Come back and tell us what happens?

Who are your insurers? Sounds like a decent company ;)

BTP did give me a report number even after saying it was lost property; the insurers were more than happy with it.
