I was wondering how often ,if ever, has your lens been stripped down and cleaned internally? I only ask because having my Nikon 24-70mm lens been in for minor repair(lens hood retaining collar replaced) I didn't realise what a difference it had made. I have had this lens for several years and never gave it a thought. Suppose after time minute dust sneaks in, not so much on the glass but on the internal workings a well.

suck up for about 1 minute
also your not disturbing the innerds of the lens

Leave it alone until something needs attention.

You can remove the front lens group on some lenses which is where dust often collects over time, but you need to know exactly what you're doing. There are optical adjustments in there (cams and possibly shims) and they must go back together precisely as before.

What could possibly go wrong?!

That's dangerous advice in general, and particularly bad for the Nikon 24-70mm, where the service manual warns that 'lens alignment work will be necessary' if the front element is removed.
