Camera insurance

Hope this is the right place to ask. Looking to get some camera (and maybe laptop) insurance, any recommendations?

Value of £700, which will go up in time. Cover for theft and damage etc. Not looking to spend loads ideally

If you have home contents insurance it's worth asking to see it you can get your camera kit covered as an extra - it can work out cheaper this way.
 
I have just renewed my insurance, asked about photo gear, they said that as long as an individual item is no more than £1000, it would be covered!! Included in the usual contents cover. Only quoting what they said.
 
I paid £70 extra on my home insurance to cover £15k of camera equipment both home and away from home.
By standard it covered upto £5k but with no single item over £500. Another I tried covered up to £5k but no single item over £1k, so you need to ask carefully and consider the kit you have. Most limits won't cover the big L lenses, but it's relatively cheap to increase the cover.
 
I'm with photoguard, they get good reviews from here with people who have had to make a claim, thankfully I've not had to test them on it yet :)

Mine is about £6/month for £1000 worth with £1m PL included.
 
I am with Imaging Insurance. I originally got a recommendation but decided to phone around anyway. They were the cheapest for me just over a year ago (I didn't bother ringing around again for renewal).

Any item valued over £1500 has to be listed with s/n, otherwise they just ask for a total figure. Public liability insurance is very reasonable, and they automatically cover you for up to 60 days abroad each year.

Luckily I haven't had to make a claim, but I can honestly say they are one of the few companies I don't mind calling to speak to their customer services. Extremely helpful and very polite.

Certainly worth checking out your home insurance. Personally I'm using John Lewis at the moment. They are quite happy to cover camera gear, though they wanted a bit extra for the Oly 300mm F2.8
NFU Mutual seemed quite good too.

Been with them for 3 years now. Excellent. Had a claim with them. Cheque arrived within 5 days. Can't ask for more.

Thanks everyone, will check with the home insurance first, if not i'll get some dedicated camera cover.

home insurance generally can cover away from home, i work for santander and our cover is very comprehensive in this area!
