Best company to go with?
Also is it best to take it out when buying the camera or can you do it when your man.warranty runs out?

I went with Domestic and General... Jessops use them as far as I'm aware... I was covered on everything apart from theft and it was £60 for 3 years cover which is nothing!

Hope that helps!

Do you require any public liability cover in the policy?

I use Aaduki, they cater for both amateurs and pro. They are also recommended by the SWPP

For how much cover is that? What are the restrictions?

No public liability.
I just rang Photoguard and they said their insurance covers theft/accidental damage but not repairs should a camera fault occur. Is this normal?

Sounds okay - the last bit is what you might have an extended warranty for.

Ok the extended warranty is actually what Im looking for.
Just got a price from Dom & General ( thanks peach ) and they quoted £139 for 4 years
starting from the end of the man.warranty which seems expensive.
I thought there may have been a stipulation to take out insurance/warranty extension when purchasing the camera as Im getting it today. As thats not the case I'll look at extending the warranty when it runs out instead. Before that I may take out insurance for theft/damage but I can do that anytime.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Just a thought ... depending on how much you spend... I think it may be £750 max, Halifax bank cover items for theft and damage on their Ultimate Reward acc which is £12.50 per month.
I have my phone covered with them... also useful for other items around the house :)

I too went for Aaduki when I got my D3 because my household policy didn't even come close. It is about £460 for £15,000 of kit cover and some Professional Indemnity cover - I wouldn't take the installment option unless cash is very tight as it is very expensive.

my camera is covered by dometic and general but they wont cover my lens cos it isnt a kit lens grr

When I bought my Sony gear from Jessops I also purchased a 70-300 Tamron I took out an extended warranty which also covers my Tammy, thank god as I fell on the Wyedean and damaged it. Phoned D&G they gave me the repair's phone number and they even picked it up just waiting for it to come back.

Mines just on my house insurance, but my 1dsmk3 is on domestic and general extended warranty and covers accidental damage.
