Yes
when not using your camera do you take the batteries out of the grip - or do you just leave them in the grip attached to the camera?

I've always left them in personally.

Is there a reason your wanting to remove them?

My 40D is gripped.

Grip says on with batteries in and 400mm attached pretty much all the time.

I just like to have it primed and ready because of the wildlife that visits the garden.

Yep I leave my batteries in my D90 and grip for the reason above, its always ready!

Much the same as Phil, I leave mine in, grip on and lens attached (hood and all) for when I just need to pull it out and turn it on. I cant see it causing the battery life to drain anything noticeable over its life to be honest, and a battery a year or even two isnt exactly a massive expenditure even if it did cause any trouble

thanks for the replies everyone. i just wanted to know what other members did - wasn't sure if for e.g canon recommended the battery be taken out when not using the camera etc.

canon do recommend you take it out, but the majority of people will not, and the effects on the battery will be negligible.

The advice to remove batteries is the same as for almost any device that uses batteries; 'If you will not be using the device for an extended period you should remove the batteries'.

Personally, as I don't always use the grip, I have a battery in the camera with a second in the grip (plus spares in the bag) - it takes a little longer to swap the camera battery into the grip when I want to use it, but nto enough to worry about.
