Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Somebody I know from another forum has accidentally left his camera gear (gripped DSLR with lens attached plus another lens and filters in bag) at a specific location on the Isle of Skye near to Struan.

I've PMd a couple of people who I know are on Skye but if anybody else local would be willing to have a look for him - I can PM the details of the gear and the exact location where it was left.

I appreciate it's a long shot but thanks in advance

Phil

Have you/he considered contacting the police on Skye? They might not mind sending a PC past the location to check for you.

I will suggest that to him.

I also work for Scottish Water so will be contacting a few of the guys over that way who roam around in vans.

Oh dear, what a horrible situation for them
My mate is having a wee tour and was planning on hitting Skye at the weekend, if you don't get someone before hand, I can ask if he'd play international rescue. But it's only a maybe
Has he tried asking local plod to look for him?

I see someone suggested police, on phone and slow typing :-)

Thanks

Marie (canon-togger) has offered to take a look in the morning so I'll wait to see if that brings any luck.

many thanks

Phil

Nothing here yet
PM seems to be a bit hit and miss
I can pop the email up for 5 minutes or if you have an email you're ok posting for a few mins, I'll contact you

I hope it waterproof if it is still there...torrential rain this evening.
Lots of people away to Black Isle show and Belladrum otherwise I could get some info just now from folks over that way. But I'll go over in daylight in the morn and take a look myself.

Many thanks Marie

I may not be online much over the next day or so but I've asked Steve for his phone number / email which I'll PM through to you once I get it.

Ok cheers.
It would be nice if this story has a happy ending...fingers crossed!

Amazing. (The help not the loss.) I hope he gets his kit back.

My parents live in Struan...drop me a message if you need someone to go take a look.

I've sent them a link to this thread in case they hear of anyone finding anything.

I'll see whether Marie has had any luck when i get back from work later.

Message sent to my friend on Skye. Ill let you know when I get a response.

Cheers

I'm just back from the location where it was left...not there now I'm afraid :(
Lets hope the police picked it up earlier or someone else has handed it in to them.
Meanwhile I'll put word out up here to see if anyone has heard about someone finding it. You never know.

That's a shame, I was hoping for a happy ending in this one
Lets hope someone has either handed them into police, or they already have them

What a situation. Must be gut wrenching.

I'd love to have come back and posted a pic of the bag with gear all safe and sound (even if it was nikon!).
Probably too much to expect as it was a couple of nights ago I think. Had I known earlier in the week I'd have driven straight over, with torch if necessary to locate it.

Oh well

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to look Marie - it was a long shot but fingers crossed the Police may have already been.

Keep us in the picture, Phil.
I am sure lots of folk on here would like to know the outcome whilst hoping it will be good.

I'm still trying, have emailed the cafe in Struan incase anyone has mentioned finding it. I've put a facebook notice on Skye free ads and on my own page.
I've also emailed various folk I know in the area. Local knowledge/word of mouth might just turn something up.

Is the spot where the camera was left likely to be frequented by tourists wandering about ?

I was wondering the same. I'd have thought Skye is one of the best places to lose your kit, if there is such a thing.

Hope someone does the right thing and hands it in to the authorities.

Not sure to be honest. I think it was part of the old Struan road that runs parallel to the new one. My first thought when I got there was 'why would anyone park in here'.
I guess it was to get off the main road. So I suppose tourists might use it.
Locals would be more likely to be walking their dogs on it.
I walked all the way down the path/old road (twice!) looking for the bag or any clues but found nothing.
Either the police have visited it before me and picked it up or someone has purely by chance parked/walked there and stumbled upon it.

If it was a local there is a good chance of getting it back. I can't speak for tourists though

Thanks very much Marie

Jon's tearoom is in glen eynort.
Unlikely that they would know much about a camera bag left in Struan but anything is worth a try.

Parents will keep an ear out when they get back tomorrow. They know you Marie, small world!

Yeah, I did say I wasn't sure of the location in relation to where the camera was left, but no harm in asking.

mid_gen's parents are on the case now too
Turns out I know them/know of them and we have a mutual facebook friend so I've passed on all info I have and they will investigate using their contacts/resources.
