Hi all,

I'll be travelling to Australia in 3 weeks time and have a five hour stopover in Singapore airport.Could anyone tell me is it possible to buy a camera there? I'm thinking of a Canon 1D MARK III....:)

Thank's as always inadvance...

No idea about Singapore airport I am afraid. Have you tried googling to check? You could also see if you can find a phone number and give them a call, even if just to check prices.

Remember though that on Canon camera bodies they do not have a worldwide warranty - only valid in the country of purchase.

I was in Singapore in October and didn't see a 1DIII the airport. In the camera shops in town they were complaining that Canon only allow them to sell a limited warranty (only valid in Singapore) which limits their tourist business.

I was buying a Sony A850 which has an international warranty. Damn good price too (~£1250)

Just checked the Singapore Airport website and they only sell the 400D kit.I'll just have to wait until i get to Australia to see whats available...:)

Pinrello, I live in Singapore and to be honest, if you've got five hours, I would head out of the airport and to a place called SimLim Square. It will take 20minutes or so in a taxi. It's an eight story electronics only shopping mall. I bought a 500D back in October, with lots of extras, for well below what I would have had to pay at any of the online retailers in the UK. Go armed with what you expect to pay and be prepared to haggle. I managed to reduce the first price by around 40%!

I think Gembobs is right about the body though.....pretty sure my warranty is only valid in Singapore........not a problem for me though!

Thank's very much for the reply Feeex.Just looked it up on Youtube and it looks amazing, very similar to a place i visited in Bangkok a few years ago.But i only have a 5hr stopover and when i mentioned it to the better half the reply wasn't too favourable.I'll have my little son with me and it's a bit of hassle..Pity though...:|

BUT, also make sure you tell the seller straight away, you don't want to be sold another camera, this is the one you want so what is his best price. This will save you at least half an hour while he gives you a crazy cheap price for your first camera then tries to sell you another one

ah, SimLim Square, a technogeeks paradise!!

I love that place!

yea but not a good place to shop though
