Hi all,

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section, I was torn between Talk Equipment and Talk Basic!

So I am looking to make the jump into using DSLR cameras and have no proper background in using them. I'll be starting from scratch trying to learn all the tips and tricks I can so I don't want to be spending too much initially, preferably a maximum of £500.

The majority of the things I'll be taking pictures of are general days out so landscape and wildlife being the most important key points for me. Things like portrait shots and filming being of less importance.

I've been looking at various articles and reviews on line and I'm drawn towards Nikon cameras but if anyone can provide me with good enough reasons to try out a different brand I'm all ears! I first starting looking at the D3200 but after a while I was interested in what the D5100 had to offer what with its flip out screen and it seemed like more of an all rounder?

Am I looking at the right camera for me with the D5100 or are there more suited options for me with my price range?

Thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh and Welcome

if anyone can provide me with good enough reasons to try out a different brand I'm all ears!

Thanks,
Josh

Best reason is because you need to make sure you like the feel of the body, the size of the body and also how it works - menu system, button layout etc.

It's a lot of money to spend, to then realise you prefer another make...

Reviews are great, but you need to make sure you like it - don't forget what 1 person loves another probably hates...

Good luck with your new body when you get one

I got a Nikon D3100 last year with the kit lens and really like it. Despite being classed as a level entry camera it's a great bit of kit for the money and you won't outgrow it fast.
