Hi all, i have just purchased a used, but good condition nikon d50. Owning another d50 aswell, but the auto/ manual focus switch has broke.
Anyway, getting to the point, taking photos in the bright light and they all turn out really dark, before changing up the exposure. After i have taken the photo, most of time it comes up with 'ERR' on the top screen.

Now does anybody know what this means, as i havnt got the instruction manual, and should i be worried, and what can i do to go about it?

thats from my new camera

thats from my older camera

excatly same settings!!!

ERR means error.. Camera malfunction, can be many things, shutter failure one of them, and going by that image, looks quite possible.
Could also be a lens comms issue, try cleaning the lens contacts and camera contacts.. Have you more than one lens to try?

Take the battery out and leave it out for a bit, then try again.

I think you are just better off using your old one in AF! manual focus really isn't that important.

Yeah, thats what I was of afraid of someone saying. No, the lens is fine, and im gueasing the battery has already been out for a couple of days anyway, as I purchased it on the net a few days ago. Yes I do have another lens to try, and it does the same.

It doesnt matter if the camera can flick to and from auto focus now, as the new lens I bought aswell, has the selection on it, so its a good thing in one hand with that lens but I suppose its a bad thing about the camera itself. Ill see what the company can tell me about it, who I bought it off, and maybe ill be able to get a refund

Thank you for replying though, and for the pointers
