Interesting point. Why should they, the drivers/codec needed are supplied by the camera manufacturer, it's not the OSs job to keep up to date.

Looking around at things I connect to my pc, my car, CNC router, laser etcher, spectrum analyser, Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood radios and several Chinese radios, sewing machine, printer and numerous other devices, and none of them Windows will do anything with unless files are downloaded and installed.
It's up to the manufactures to supply what is needed and the end user to install it.

Back to cameras, I have had to do the same with Pentax and Canon files before.

Yeah, that was the point I was trying to make, possibly quite poorly!
 
There is another possibility, don't know if you will want to answer the question though.

Have you tried installing SilkyPix on the W11 machine which won't display the Raw images?

One point you did succeed in demonstrating was that there are people who think that everyone should agree with them - and that everything should meet with their approval.

It's sad really, because I think they'd get more from any website, if they chilled out and picked the nuggets out of other peoples' advice or comments.
 
Absolutely no point doing a comparison in auto ISO mode, 'drive' the camera with manual everything (manually set ISO, aperture & Shutter speed) so you at least know the pictures were taken with the same settings.
