I am starting to get into walking, trials and eventually up in to the more mountainous areas when when fitness levels improve:oops: :$

I have been thinking that I definitely want my camera with at least one lens out with me, but trying to work out the best way to carry the camera with it been easy to reach, come rain or shine without having to take the rucksack off each time or have the camera open to the elements as my lenses are not weather sealed and I'm confused if my camera actually is:thinking:

I'm thinking a top loading camera bag, but one that can attach to the rucksack shoulder straps, not just hanging round my neck as i think over a long walk this could get uncomfotable

I have a Nikon D7100 with Battery Grip and i would be taking either my Nikon 12-24 or Sigma 24-70 lens for landscapes, so not the lightest of setups

I'm guessing I may not be the first to want to find a solution, so if others could give a bit of advice that would be appreciated from their travels and adventures

Most top loaders have a belt loop of some kind, if you buy a rucksack with a waist band you can put the top loader on this, then push it round to your hip.

It may work its way down towards your belly as you walk, so might need some velcro or a clip of some kind to keep it in place.

I use optech rucksack connectors, let's the shoulder straps take the weight and camera is readily available.
Admittedly not weather sealed, large zip lock bag works a treat or if your jacket is loose cover it with that.
Did have a toploader with a chest harness, but recently sold it on here, much prefer the optech method

Cheers I'll look into the suggestions

I'll typically carry the camera on a speed strap slung cross body... just put it on before the backpack.

Lowepro and Mountainsmith holster bags have D-rings on the four corners to add/remove straps. They make good mounting points for attaching the bag to the backpack shoulder straps in front of you. The backpack straps also need D-rings or attaching loops (most have them).

I clip a Mountainsmith to my climbing harness like a chalk bag...

I have a black rapid strap and my think tank glass taxi backpack is very comfortable over the stap of the black rapid. Camera just un clips from the strap when it rains to go back in the bag.

I have a q strap, cheaper than a blackrapid but even when when just carrying my lowpro nova 160 if I have them on the same shoulder they get in he way one forcing the other fowards or backward off the shoulder, so I discounted that idea, maybe the BR is a better fit

the Capture PRO Camera Clip looks a good method, but only on a nice day, were the weather won't change, which in the lakes is a uncertainty;)

just been looking at the CapturePro Clip, with the RC2 Manfrotto option, looks ideal

For wet weather, im thinking the way forward is a snugg fitting toploading AW bag, of some description, possibley attached to my rucksack harness by the Capture Pro
