I recently purchased a Canon 400d with 18-55mm lens and I'm looking to get a 70-300mm lens soon.

However, my next purchase really has to be a bag to hold them! At the moment I'm using our old camcorder bag!

Any suggestiong would be really helpful as I have no idea what to go for at the moment!

Thanks

crumpler daily 370, or 490.

fantastic quality, and look more like a manbag than a camera bag.

There are so many bags that are slightly different your best bet is to go into a few shops and have a look. I have done just that myself. I would suggest that you take your camera with you or check that they have the same camera as you in stock.

Camera bags really are very personal and there are a few different styles with certain features that may be "must have" to you or not.

My wife has a Lowepro traditional style bag that will take her dslr with its lens attached and two lens at the side. It suits her but wouldn't suit me.

I have just ordered a Lowepro Computrecker AW which will take my laptop together with my larger camera, flashes, accessories and five lens.

A few questions you might want to ask yourself: What style bag traditional/backpack/hard case; do you need all your kit with you at once or would smaller be more practical; weatherproofing; laptop option; quality; size...

My suggestion is go and try as many as you can. Tell them you will think about it and go buy on Ebay. My bag was £159 rrp, £114 at Wilkinsons and £94 delivered via ebay.

Ok thanks for the advice.

What do people think of the toploader bags? I will be using it for motorsport so thought that this might be a useful extra bag as it would be easier to put the camera in with the lens attached.

I love my Lowepro Slingshot - its a fantastic bag, easy to get the camera in and out and also doesnt really look like a camera bag.

My experience is limited to just the bags stocked at the local shops so can't help with that sorry.

I have the same kit as you Scrazzy, originally I had the slingshot 100, but the 70-300 was a tight fit, I now have the minitrecker AW which holds the lot, including the 70-300 fitted to the 400D with lens hood. But as others have said your best bet is to go into a few shops and see what type of design you prefer, shoulder bag, backpack, half camera bag/half back pack etc etc

You should also take into consideration the size, will it be allowed to be carried on the a plane if you go on foreign holidays. I think the size is about 56cm x 45cm x 25cm.

Good luck on the search, I have a Tamrac Expidition 5 which suits me fine cos it leave my hands free and does'nt slip off the shoulder when taking a pic. It holds my gear in the sig line, filters spare batts and lots of other bits of junk and a small pair of binoculars.

Re the slingshot... my mate bought one, found the single strap thing to be a pain (literally!) after a day of carrying around a full bag load of gear and the "slingshot" feature to be pointless.

A big bag of kit I think requires a proper backpack type solution - the LowePro's are excellent. I wouldn't be without mine!

BTW, I used to use just a big "normal" type bag on a shoulder strap with my 35mm... I got the 35mm out the other day and was staggered as to how much lighter the EOS-300 was compared to my 30D with battery grips!! That's how I got away with the old bag... :D

Check out a crumpler zoomiverse It has a removerable mesh cage . you can take it out and leave your gear inside and use it like a normal backpack.
