Camera bag out of leather jackets.

the attention to detail there looks top notch, nice!

Shame I got rid of my old leather sofa so soon. Had it 20 years and the stories it could tell ;) but fire regs meant that we could only dispatch it via the council. I had to physically guy the chair before taking it out to the front so the council could collect (they would only collect from the front of the house - god knows how the elderly will cope!) and I considered keeping some bits of the leather for 're-use'. Mind you it was terracotta-coloured so wouldn't have been a discreet camera bag...

Repurposing at its best, incorporating the original jacket label in the bag was a nice touch too. Well done Alan and of course Paul for making the bag.

Yup, that did surprise me :D

That's a really nice piece.

Though I have to say that when you mentioned 'contrasting' stitching, I thought you meant like a bright Orange or Lime Green.

haha but no but then again why not, those colours could well work :D

The said he liked to use same as material colour stitching but he had things on display which had contrasting stitching and I like it so that's what I went for. He called it "natural."

I've mostly been using a man bag I bought from a floating market in Thailand. I'm going to be careful with this bag, it will not be going into undergrowth or be put down on wet sand or anything like that :D
No I disagree with that - you need to wear, use and gently abuse it so that it ages and gets a patina (if that's the right word)
It looks stunning and will only improve as it ages I think.

Maybe. I am worried about damaging it but if it does get ripped I suppose I can always go back to Paul. I'm not sure it needs more aging though as one of those jackets is 40 years old and the other possibly over 30 :D

Fair enough!
I'm someone who likes things to be used and am happy for them to show the scars. My in laws have a dining table that is 40-odd years old and I've never seen it as its covered with a special mat, a thick plastic sheet and a table cloth. Looks like new under all that. We have a dining table that was almost antique when we were given it as a wedding present 35 years ago and it bears the scars of many happy meals. My wife wanted me to sand it down and refinish it, I refused.
IMO some things need to be looked after and some need to show the life they've had. A bit like my face...

I don't mind things showing their age.

I have a few bags including a cheap man bag and a couple of Billingham bags made of "FibreNyte" and it's these that I tend to take to the beach and into the countryside and I am a bit worried that leather would easily snag and be ripped if for example caught on thorns, twigs etc. I'll see how I feel but at the mo I think I'll be using this leather bag more for town and town days out rather than countryside and wood days.

Quite right too - it's a one off and very special too. I hope I didn't sound like I was putting you down on any way, I was just trying to say that your bag needs to be used, seen and appreciated - I'm sure my in laws table is lovely, but I'll only find out when they pop their clogs..!

No offence taken as I knew exactly what you meant and I do agree even though the leather may not age any better but the bag might pick up some battle scars and/or stains so we'll see how hard or kind use and time are to its looks :D

I've seen several yellow wellidogs made from "retired" Lifeboat crew boots. Not for sale - they don't get enough to sell them, just enough to make them to use as bait for their shops.
