Does anyone know who makes those mountain backpacks with access to the camera via a flap in the "back" part of the backpack?

Something like the fstop models, but surely there are others?

Cheers

I've just ordered a Lowepro hatchback 16L, look it up

there's also the flip side and the flip side sport, not as versatile though imo

manfrotto do one too but I thought the lowepro seemed best all rounder

Cheers for the replies folks, after something wih a bit more room for mountain gear too (fleeces etc)

The Alpha L might be the suitable version for you - I've emailed the Czech distributor to see if they have any of those, which they have.
I've asked for their best price and delivery to the UK, so after that it's up to you whether it's the one or not.

Just received a reply - damn they're quick! - $154 +$14 (£106)

Also cheaper on the bag cost, you'd need to ask how much delivery is, or use that when negotiating with the distributor in the link above.

How do you find this bag? Been looking at getting one myself.

It's a nice bag but quite small at 16L , I can fit a d600 with 24-120 f4 attached and my strobe in the camera section, or I could put a couple of small lenses in there instead f the flash, there's room for a few things in the top compartment too and there's the tablet pocket and a bottle pouch on either side

I chose the smaller bag for travelling on planes but I'd probably opt for the 22L for just general use

I've been massively impressed with my LowePro Pro-Runner-350 AW. Fits a D800 with a 24-70 2.8 on it, along with a 70-200 2.8, a 50, and a 14-24 2.8. Good tripod straps, and very comfortable straps. I can carry all that round for hours without fatigue. The all weather cover works well and is quick to unfold and stow away again.

There are larger versions of the same bag if you need to store additional items.

I've the lowepro mini trekker backpack and like it - I think the pro runner is the new version of it.

Can comfortable carry my gear and it has the all weather cover (not that I've needed to use it)

I've got a vanguard sling bag. Used it most weekends for about 2 years in all weathers. Never let me down yet. Great piece of kit

Sounds like it might be prefect for my needs as I have a D7000 with a 16-85 on it which is similar sized body but smaller lens. Can you possibly send me a picture of how you fit your gear in?

Anyone on here used Clik products? :)

Think I'm settled on a Crumpler or a ThinkTank for the city break/day to day shooting

Have you ruled out the Alpha L then?
There's very little in the way of rear-opening backpacks apart from those already mentioned, so if it's the primary criteria, you're not exactly spoilt for choice.
