Currently i have no insurance for my camera equipment and as I'm constantly adding to my kit, I thinking it would be wise to look at getting it insured, i was wondering what others are using and what sort of premiums your paying, I'm considering renewing home contents insurance but I'm not sure what it would covered, I'm going on my hols soon and would like to get it covered for that too

Roughly what value gear are you talking about?

Most house insurance will cover "personal posessions away from home" as an addition to your policy.

Check with home insurance but normally they will insure up to 10% as "personal possessions away from home" with a single item limit of £1,000. Make sure it also covers worldwide.

Some companies are better than others so have a good look at policies offered, cheapest is not always best.

Been doing some more research would anyone recommend photoguard?

Most people would recommend your household insurance company.:) Usually much cheaper than separate insurance.

Unless you're doing any paid work - in which case, a specialist company is the best bet.

I'm with photoguard. Have been for 3 years. Cover all my kit no probs never made a claim that's when you can tell if an insurance company is good.

I've got a policy for me and a separate one for the wife with photoguard, but we've got around £12K worth between us and haven't had to claim yet, but my 5D3 costs twice what my house insurance will pay per item (£1500 max per item) so I needed to get something extra.

Normally house insurance however if you are taking photos professionally you will need better cover I use clic insurance very professional and competitive
