Im looking at getting a new camera soon.... where would be the best place to get it and what is best... i was looking at the Canon EOS 450D????

Any good?

what is best is very subjective...the 450d is a good starter SLR, as for prices have a look here:
price comparison

don't forget that you'll need lenses. If you're just starting out then the 18-55 kit will probably suffice until you learn more.

The 450D is a great camera, but don't rule out going used. You could pick up a 20D and some nice glass for what you'd pay for a 450D and the kit lens.

Just a thought!

Cheers,
James

the 450d will be a good quality camera for you. But what sort of photography are you interested in? The 450d is pretty small, and not as tough as some others, so may not be the best choice for a photographer who is going to get his camera roughed up a bit.

Also something to bare in mind for the photographer with 'bigger hands'. My hands are about average i'd say, but i had a 350d and it felt tiny in my hands. (a battery grip solved that problem) But thats just my opinion, like kfridge said, It's all subjective. Would be a good idea to look at all the offerings from the main manufacturers in your price range (canon, nikon, olympus, pentax, sony, etc) and check out the specs on them all. Also go into a shop and get hands on with them to see how they feel.

hope that helps a little.:)

The 450D is good............but the 40D is better (and cheaper!). We have just bought two 40Ds and love 'em!

AH the 40d is better yes. I didn't realise it was cheaper! What are they offering with the 450d that the 40d doesnt have?!

the 450d is a new model. the 40 d been out for a few months at least.

gen, judging by the lenses your using, i would guess you would be better with a 1d, so you get the most out of them.

I am starting a DSLR photography course in June and have been recommended to buy the Canon 450d. I will put my opinion on here when i get it in next few weeks.

Really, buy a 40D. I thought for months about buying the 450D instead of the 40D, but in the end bought the 40D and I'm really happy about it.

The 40D is a MUCH better camera then the 450D, and cheaper. I cannot see a single reason why anyone would buy the 450D instead..........

40D with a decent lens, it deserves it.
