Hi There.

Well I will give you the background information. This summer (1st June -> 7th August) I will be going on a USA Summer Camp trip. This means I will run and organise events for children to participate in.

After this I plan on spending 3-5 weeks travelling around key areas of America. My camp is in Atlanta, Georgia. The main places I plan on visiting are Indianapolis, Chicago, Michigan, Niagra Falls, New York, Washington.

I would like to ask for advice on camera gear I SHOULD plan on taking with me. All info will be greatfull.

My Camera Set-up Now;
Canon 400D + Battery Grip
Canon 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 Kit Lens
Canon 50mm F1.8 Prime Lens
Sigma 28-300 F3.5-6.3 Lens
Tamron 70-300 F3.5-5.6 Macro Lens
Sunpak PF-30X Flashgun

I plan on getting the following lenses before I go, I would like to know whether they are going to be useful for travelling in America or not, and whether or not I should just keep my current gear.

I Plan on getting;
Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 Wide Angle Lens (for those landscape shots)
Sigma 24-70 F2.8 Macro Lens

I'm not really too sure about what I should be getting, etc
I feel I would benefit from both these lens and which would you suggest is the best out of the two.
And what other alternatives would you adivse?

Many Thanks for reading
Jamie

I'd say go for the ones you have listed there. I have a 10-22 and it was basically glued to my camera around NYC, and my 24-105 was very useful as well. Probably not worth taking a telephoto.

I know what you mean about the telephoto.
I will be taking my 28-300 just incase as it's quite a good focal range without have to swap lenses all the time :)

Thanks for your advice, I think the 10-20 will be beneficial for big city shots esp. New York and Niagra Falls I think.

Thanks
Jamie

I have just come back from Chicago and I used either the 10-20 or the 24-70 for all my shots.

That's a LOT of stuff - i'd slim it down to:

Nifty fifty
24+70
Kit lens (small, innit)

and the body and flash as necessary.

Cheers,
James

Far too much kit - or are you planning on building up your muscles.?

And why are you planning on buying and taking with you a macro? The USA is a big place you know ;)

I'm not planning on taking all that
That is my WHOLE kit.
I wanted advice on what I should take and what I shouldn't etc.
I think I will only have enough money for EITHER 10-20mm or 24-70mm not both
So which would u recommend out of the two?

24-70 - the 10-20 is a wonderful lens, but in my opinion and having visited New York, the 24-70 will be a more useful range.

The place is so big that you don't necessarily need anything SUPER wide (in my opinion).

Cheers,
James

Thanks for that info Moos3h
Very much appreciated.

But in all honesty I think I would benefit at home more with a 10-20
So I think I might get a 10-20 and IF i can get the 24-70 also
If not i'll buy the 24-70 when i get back

Many Thanks Jamie

PS: Any more advice anyone?
