Problem is the people I have asked that at work and friends come back with answers like, my dad went there, another place was busy, it was closest.

No answers have inspired confidence and not one person has said, because the artist was the best :shrug:
 
Yeah. The thing I noticed was everyone has a recommendation of the most brilliant tattoo artist ever, and they all have horror stories about another.

Problem is, they all contradict each other. :lol:

Personal recommendation is the way to go though, coupled with viewing examples of the artists previous work (not just designs on the wall).

I know my tattoo isn't exactly the mona lisa of the tattoo world, but it means a hell of alot to me, everything about it is for the right reasons and I love it.
I was made to feel extremely comfortable while choosing, they were really friendly, helpful and understanding when I wasn't too sure on things at first.
They weren't too busy to listen to my questions and offer ideas of their own.
Made the whole experience much better.

In contrast to another place I visited who were quite dismissive because I didn't know exactly what I want, and just left me to it.
 
DPM whereabouts are you from? The thing that confuses me about the posted shop, the rule about you having to shave your own parts of your body the day before. Most places shave around ten minutes before they start. Any tiny hairs will cause issues later. Some of their work looks good, but a lot of it is stock stuff/flash. Try finding someone who specialises in custom stuff, you will undoubtedly get a better result.

I thought that odd but my neighbour who went there said they shaved his arm before they did it.

Both were helpful and blew up my design to the size I want and gave a price.
The girl on reception at eves tattoos was helpful and advised on the numbering I wanted on the balloon. She had some really good tattoo's that were done there, think there on the site, one is of Frankenstein and looked great in person.
The quality of work at Woody's also looked really good also.

Im leaning towards Woodys just because the atmosphere seemed more friendly and id feel a bit more relaxed there.

Let me know what you think of their work if you have time please Newyorkaddict.

Good choice mate, all people at "Woodys" are highly respected in the Tattooing world. They are known to be an outright friendly gang, and have made more than a few friends while carrying out work. Woody was one of the guys i wanted to do some of my work, but i could just never get the timimng right. I still have aspirations of getting there though;)

Yeah he is a busy man, you have to book him rather than just turn up. He was not about when I went in.
Im going to go in mid week, whenever I can get a day off.

Scabbing over nicely now. Bloody itchy though. (No Im not scratching it :p)

TBH Though Im still very indifferent about it. More the quality of the artwork rather than the design. (Doesn't help that it's hard to take a good picture of it...getting the skin at just the right stretch, so it's all properly in proportion as it should be).
I think it's the writing more than anything, I'm going to go along to another place, see if it can be 'tidied' up a little. If not, no biggie tbh
We make our decisions in life and we have to live by them :) It still means to me exactly what I want it to mean, it's still the right reminder, the right reasons which is what matters.

I'm just so much of a perfectionist / OCD though :D
 
I was going to ask how the itching was! Mine's healing nicely but is just begging to be scratched. At least I can sleep on that shoulder now (left shoulder's knackered and I snore like a traction engine if I lie on my back. Sleeping on my front isn't an option - I roll off!!!)
 
Slap it. Apparently it helps with the itching.
I found itching *around* the tattoo just works.

Oh I've stopped putting the cream on now too. Stopped last night, and this morning, it's scabbed over even quicker.
 
The dodgy left shoulder makes putting baby bum cream on it hard enough, so slapping it is definitely out!

It's the epitaph of Nikos Kazantzakis, a Cretan author who wrote Zorba the Greek and The Last Temptation of Christ (among other works). Struck a chord with me the first time I saw it many years ago and I've wanted it as a tat for several years. What finally made me get it was my other half having some cover up which was done so well that I looked at other examples of the tattooist's work (including script) so knew I trusted her to do the work. She said she found it easier than Roman script because it was less familiar so she wasn't trying to read it as she went backwards up it! Just needs one tonos (emphasis accent) adding - the apprentice who traced it onto the carbon missed it! Better that way than to have an extra one!!!
There's going to be an eagle (or buzzard) above it - a flash eagle (if I can find one I like) or a conversion from a photo I took of a buzzard (once I've extracted the bird from the background!).

Nah! I wanted the "I'm free" (last line) a little bolder so she did that outline then fill in but the rest she did as one wide line, so just the one slowish stroke. It was fine on the freckly bits but the whiter bits are a bit tender! TBH, it hurt more than I remembered from 25 years ago when i had my last one done but back then, I booked the appointment and returned a little less... shall we leave it as "sober" than I was when I made the appointment!

My remaining proper scab has disappeared now, but the whole tattoo looks like the weathered sole of an old ladie's foot. All wrinkly and leathery like lol

It dont half hurt when the colour is being done!

Anyway, im over the moon with it and was told to go back in 3 weeks so the tattoist can check it over.

I have rinsed it with warm water and put on a small amount of nappy rash cream.
I now seem to be leaking ink (correction blood and a little ink)! How long will it do that for? I need to wear a shirt to work tomorrow.
Marcel did you cover yours at night to begin with?

I didn't.

My artist covered it straight away, and said leave it on for an hour or so.
Then to remove it and DO NOT recover it at all (except for minimal and very occasional covering to protect it during certain activities etc).

I had to remove the dressing, then wash with soap and water, then apply the A&D cream 3 times a day for a couple of weeks.

I just kept a tshirt on with baggy sleeves, with one rolled up to get air to it. Handy being a househusband, I didn't have work to worry about.

I did 'leak' a bit for a day or so, especially if I used too much cream, it gets warm on the body and thins out a bit so starts to drip....with colour...so it looked like I had bleeding hearts lol.
I just dabbed it with kitchen roll if it was weeping colour

Very nice work, I am currently on the construction and research phase of my next tattoo.
I am wanting a half sleeve in a Japanese style this will be my third and biggest yet.......
I am taking more time as it will be the biggest and most extravagant as it will be full colour, my other tattoos are black and grey.....

Mine is so crispy at the mo, the itching is driving me mad!
 
Well it scabbed over and the scabs eventually fell off.

It's just over 2 weeks now, and it's itching. Still a little lumpy / raised, and its now got the 'leathery' look......quite itchy :p
 
My itching stopped after just over a week.

As for cover, tattooist covered it with clingfilm which I left on until my wife got home from work - my left shoulder's knackered so I couldn't reach to unwrap and wash it myself! After that, I wore sleeveless t-shirts during the day for a few days and dark ones with sleeves at night to stop me leaking onto the sheets (again, most leakage was due to hot bepanthen (nappy cream)). All back to as close to normal as I get now.
