What software have you been using? Obviously there's the GIMP, but things seem to have moved on a lot in recent years, with Shotwell, F-Spot and possibly most interesting - Darktable.

http://darktable.sourceforge.net/

It's a Lightroom 'clone', i've tried it once or twice but my computer really isn't up to spec and i was wondering just how it compares to Lightroom. Anyone else tried it?

I've been playing with a trial version of Bibble Pro 5:

That seems pretty close to LR3 - I think anyway (not really used LR3 much to be honest). It's not open-source though - it's a commercial product they want money for :cuckoo:

I have it (Darktable) installed but not used it much tbh. I can't compare it to LR, I don't have Windows :)
I originally wanted it for tethered shooting but, as my luck generally goes, Oly e620 isn't supported so I've sort of left it on the shelf.
I'll probably have another play in a few weeks, I have some decent (ie over 2 days!) off.
Shotwell is installed by default with Ubuntu so I've stuck with that for transferring from my cards to the PC, but nothing else.
I found the stand-alone HDR apps (QTpfs and Luminance) disappointing. Luminance wouldn't even install and I had no real urge to figure out why. No great loss, I can't stand HDR, generally, but would liked to have had a go :)

Having played around with most software on OSX/windows/linux I am still using ufraw/gimp for photos. Darkroom looks very nice, but I don't like lightroom so no use for me ;)

I've had some good results using hugin for panoramas and stitching images together.

I quite like luminance but not a fan of HDR. If you've got ubuntu then it's in the packages, but under the name qtfpsgui.

I had never heard of Darktable till just now, Have downloaded it and will have a play.
I used Gimp until I discovered that an old copy of CS2 I have works fine through wine. Occasionally the windows key need to be pressed to execute some commands such as defining a clone source but once you know , it is no hassle.

You can run Photoshop using an emulator. WINE should be in your repositry.
