I've just pre-ordered Photoshop Elements 7 from Amazon.
Due out on 13th October.
Hopefully that will help me create some masterpieces 'cos I'm as thick as a donkey's dangler when it comes to PP
:(:(:(:(

niffty should be coming today :D the guy sent it special delivery  (oh and the Maxxum 7000 too lol)

royal mail = JOKE! :bang:

apparently its been delayed at the local branch, so it will be here tomorrow :( so much for guaranteed next day delivery

I've asked the seller to claim the compensation and issue me a refund for the postage cost when he gets the money back, so at least in effect I've got free delivery making the 50mm even cheaper!

I"ve been waiting in this morn for a package RMSD before 1pm , nothing comes which is getting more frequent , checks the tracking and say" attempt del at 12.51pm card left .
No one came and no card left , been ringing sorting office no answer.
Had one the other week and tracking said delivered and of course it wasn"t.
They seem to be in a poor state at the mo.

you can call RM customer services - the local sorting office's are on the whole useless, whereas the CS is a little bit more helpful.

There is a sign up at the sorting office collection point where I go to collect any parcles from the PO that were attempted to be delivered at my house. The sign asks the 'customer' to be polite to our staff at all times.

Sometimes that is hard when you know that the only reason you have to go there is a failed delivery on their part. Why do the delivery guys find it hard to understand that the averge Joe works during the day and will not be home.

If I buy something off the web, and the deilvery guys are set to come 'between 8am and 6pm' that's just great isn't it, the times that I'll be out at work and so will the missus. Then you have to arrange time for another attempted delivery or go and collect it from some random depot that may be mailes away.

AAArrrgh...

Then there's the delivery guys who are running late and pretend that they have been to your house and put a card through, or just put a card through anyway and don't even knock on the door. Shabby delivery targets are to blame.

Just spoke to Customer Services and I might as well as been speaking to a machine , no empathy , tell me their service is getting better this year , my circs of parcel not turning up are not the norm and I just about kept my cool ( not easy when you have arranged to be in for expected del ).
Anyway he asks do you want us to reattempt del , yes I said before I go to work at 10.30am , cant guarantee that.
Cant guarantee that if I go to sorting office in the morn they will give me parcel as I have no card.
Oh dear :bang:

luckily I live 3 minutes walk from my local sorting office and they open at 7am so I can go there before catching the train to work if need be. Still a pain though, I try and get most stuff delivered to work because our reception is open 8am - 6pm.
But yes, RM are sods for parcels. We have a communial area at the entrance to our block of flats where all the post boxes are, and even if we're in, they either a) leave a card if its recorded or b) if not just leave the parcel in the communial area..WTF?! someone could so easily pinch it. We've complained with little success

ah sorry, I thought you may get more joy from CS, seems not :(

woop the camera came this morning, and trust me..the fifty is absolutly mint - you could put it in a box and give it to someone not in the know and say its new and they wouldn't know any different.
I could flog it for a tidy profit but I think I'll keep it for now ;)

Um, new here, and a little request at the risk of being shown the door...is there any chance of us alpha people having threads of our own now: it is impossible to do even a search on this thread without trawling it for aaaaages, being 31 pages long....and there's lots of things I'd like to know.

Thank you, and hi...:)

well you can always start a new thread with specific questions if you wish - I'm not sure if you mean a dedicated forum section for Sony users but since there aren't dedicated sections for other makes I doubt we could have that. But yea you can always start a new thread.

Alternatively, what are the questions you require answering? ask them here in this thread and we'll endevour to answer them :)

I Trisha and welcome.

You could always suggest it in Forum Discussions but, as Timmy says, there aren't any separate forums for the other brands so it's unlikely it would happen, but you never know! ;)

Ask away in this thread if you want, we won't get annoyed if it's already been covered in the other 31 pages. :D

32 pages now ;)

on a slightly 'other' note, is it me or is this forum a little bit sort of..well...if its not Canon and Nikon its not any good?
Obviously us in the know know that we have a decent camera , but for example:
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=70893

not one mention of Sony, Pentax or Olympus..

Well I did say "Other" 31 pages! ;)

As far as the Canon/Nikon thing is concerned I don't think it is any more prevalent here than anywhere else, if anything even less so. They are still the most dominant brands in the market and therefore will be the most talked about. Doesn't bother me as I very happy with my Sony cameras and am very secure in that they do what i want them to do. Everyone else is entitled to their opinion. I think in the example there, the OP asked specifically about the Canon 450D and that is why the thread stuck to Canon/nikon. Often if the OP doesn't start off mentioning any particular brand, Sony/Pentax/Olympus etc do tend to get a mention.

hey marc..did you get to use the 2X T/C,and if so...what are your findings?

Hi stan

yes I did get the 2X TC. I was impressed with the initial test I did at the shop, but I haven't had the chance to test it out properly yet, but i will probably be using it with a monopod as the difference in length is quite a bit (Well it is with me as I have lousy balance!:bonk:)

Certainly couldn't tell any significant reduction in image quality from the test shot. Before you ask, I looked at the test shot on my laptop and then formatted the card, only then realising that I hadn't actually copied it to the hard drive, so i can't even show you that! :bonk::bonk::bonk:

Certainly at the current price it seemed to much of a bargain to miss out on and at Digital Depot it was the same price as the 1.4X TC. if I was you, I'd pack up the camera and 70-200 G and head down to the camera shop to try it for yourself. You know it makes sense!

Once I've had a good play with it I'll post some examples.

cheers marc..i'll look forward to your test shots .how or was the AF speed affected with the 2X added? i got my 1.4X from digital depot, and saw that the 2X T/C was the same price then :naughty:.the nearest shop to me that has one is in cardiff, about 40 miles away..but if i get the time,i'll get myself up there...

Didn't notice any difference in AF speed but I will look out for it when I use it for a longer period of time. As I'm used to the Bigma at that focal length, a slightly slower AF speed than usual with the 70-200 would probably still seem an improvement! ;)

I'd be intereted to know more about the AF speed with the 2x on. I want to do more aircraft photos and as they fly past rather fast I want to be able to keep up if I splash out on a converter.

I'm just getting started and use the a200 with the kit lens. I will expand my kit as finances allow but for the moment I would like some suggestions on wireless remotes for this camera. I would like to set up on my tripod and use the remote when my subject falls into my field of view, can anyone suggest a make or model that works well. Thanks

All depends how much you want to spend???

Me being a tightwad, I purchased one of these....

Works perfectly OK on my A200
;)

what lens are you reffering to chris? you really can't beat a dedicated macro lens for 1:1 work, and you'll be able to take shots this close....

Or you could get some of the those macro 'filters' that are abundant on ebay at the moment. My brother bought some just he got his A350 and they seem to do a decent job.

Fatster, that first shot is fantastic!

anyone here able to educate me on what flashes fit on the Sony Alphas? i've been reading articles on Strobist, and want to get one, they only seem to have advice on what's a cheap starter flash for Nikons (probably because that's what the editor of the blog uses!)

Anyway, yeah, I've no idea what to look for, Jessops (for example) seems to have them for every price from £100 to £700. If i know what to look for I can get into lurking on Ebay.

Thank you for the information on wireless remotes. I think this unit is just what I want and will be placing an order. Once again, thanks :)

Depending on budget the Sony f42am is probably a good place to start.

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsa-flashes---lights/hvl-f42am

It is a dedicated Sony unit and will do ADI metering and Wireless, with I think all Alpha cameras.

jeez Mark, thats wayyyy more than i need. was hoping to experiment just, always liked macro shots but dont wanna for out £xxx to play around.

I havent even got out with that sal75300 yet, some motorsport event coming up next weekend, oppertunity to the max!

Welcome along Fatster, seems everyone on NIBikers is getting into this, Rhory and Gareth are on here too.

Hi guys! I've been lurking on this thread for ages, as I'm going to buy an A200 as soon as I can afford one. But can I request a BIG warning before those spider shots?! They're not helping my spider (and all things creepy) phobia at all!

But get it from here. Consistently good on price and service. I've used them several times (Got my 70-200 G from them)

Sorry, I was in a bit of a hurry earlier, I was not suggesting buying it from Sony, just giving the link for the specification.

Just started to dabble with off camera flash and shoot through umbrellas myself. So far I have a Sunpak PZ40X (Nikon fit) picked it up recently for £30, Cactus trigger and receiver and a brolly with stand mountings.

I want to do some canvasses of my boys for my OH's birthday, she is out tomorrow, so I will try and do some pictures then.

I did a few test shots recently managed to get some nice soft shadows with a mixture of just the off camera flash + umbrella and sometimes the pop up flash with the power dialed down 2 stops. I think the exposure is OK, not to sure about the skin tones though . See my Flickr link for a set called 'flash test'

Never thought otherwise, was just adding my two penneth to it. I don't think anyone would suggest buying direct from Sony unless you have money to burn. You'd think that buying straight from the manufacturer would be cheaper! :cuckoo:
