andy, if i win the lottery tomorrow il buy them, otherwise il need to stick to minolta and third party for the time being, that said, the 135mm and 85mm are not that much!

luke, do you know anything about the 85mm f2.8? price? release date etc. and its strange that its 2.8 when everyone else makes a 1.8 and 1.4/1.2 version.

yeah i thought the f2.8 aperture was strange but it's meant to be released in either september/october and jessops have the 85mm priced at £220.

There are certainly some nice Minolta and Tamron / KM lenses.

Some honest advice and feel free to ignore - but I would avoid buying any Sigma f/2.8 zooms - they are just not up to the job on a 24 megapixel sensor. I've tried them (multiple samples of 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8).

Stick to Tamron (or KM) for any f/2.8 lenses would be my frank and honest advice. Both the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8 are easily up to even the A900's sensor.

In Minolta, the 28-70 f/2.8 is excellent (but rare), the Konica Minolta 28-75 f/2.8 is a re-badged Tamron 28-75 and excellent.

You don't need Zeiss lenses but don't scrimp as you must always put glass before body.

looks like i may be joining you guys in the sony world!

also, anyone know of anyone selling an a850, give me a shout, or a a900 if its cheap :D

Dave

We have the Sony A850 at £1399 might be able to do you a slightly better price if you are interested.

Had a quick potter with my Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Di (picked it up from Dxyum last week). I already posted crops showing how this lens smokes the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 HSM II...http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=2852267&postcount=665

These are just random snaps, test shots all wide open.

So forgive the quality of the snaps, but hopefully the crops show the lens is easily capable of meeting the demands of a 25 megapixel sensor.

I always rated this in Nikon fit, but was put off by the dog slow focusing - this isn't a problem in Sony :D

it focusses quicker on the sony? iv been offered a minolta 17-35mm f2.8, a minolta 28-75mm f2.8, and a minolta hs5600 flash for £650, is this good price? how much does the tamron go for usually?

The Canon and Nikon versions have internal motors in the lens, and are slow and hesitant.

The Sony version is driven by the body, and on something like an A900 is fast to focus. Having used the Nikon version on a D700 as well, the Sony version on a A900 focuses about 70% faster.

Don't know anything about the flash, but you could pay £200 per lens (probably more for the 28-75).

What Tamron are you referring to?

Just bought the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8. for my A850. Over the moon with it, superb lens and a 3rd of "Sony equiv" toyed with Sigma went for Tamron in the end especially withthe 5 year UK warranty on offer. Clifton Camera did it for £599 and I ordered 2 pm. Thursday and said I would like it for Saturday morning wedding they sent it RM next day guaranteed no cost extra. Well done Clifton Camera very impressed.

that's a good price. so for 2k you have a killer combo ! :) .. grrr.... I need a job ! I want a850 with that tammy as well.

The chap I bought my Tamron from on Dyxum replaced it with the Sony 70-200 f/2.8 SSM, and he tells me the Sony is no sharper (Sony will obviously have SSM focusing)

I'm seriously thinking of letting my Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR II go - I hardly use my Nikon stuff anyhow...

You'll love the Tammy

Heya i want to replace my kit lens soon, its an 18-70 3.5-5.6 on a sony a300.

Which one is best in your educated opinions?

The 18-55 kit lens is actually a LOT better than the 18-70.

My new kit lens 18-55 ( unused ) is for sale over on AVforums .

the tamron 70-200mm, how much second hand or am i lucky to find one?

may consider getting one, that gives me 17-35mm, 28-75mm and 70-200mm all 2.8 which is handy!

don't like the bokeh on tammy . what was it called ? double line bokeh ? absolutely NOT like it :)

any pictures to show me what you mean?

i may pick up the minolta 85mm f1.4 instead of the tamron, i think i like the idea of the 85mm more than the tamron.

in Andy's link, the pic with the bird.

That double lining is caused by UV filters, not the lens.

I don't use filters. You get get double lined bokeh easily with a UV filter (bounced light causes it)

guys, going to get my missus the A330 from Jessops with the kit lens for £300. Seems like a good deal since my absolute budget is £300 and not a penny more.
I know the a450 was £300 but its up to £330 now.
She's a first time SLR'er so the functions like live view and in body shake reduction should be good. I know it has its criticisms but am I making the right choice? It has to be brand new camera since it's a birthday present...

If I was your wife and you bought me a A330 I'd divorce you :)

Seriously... look at the A450 or A500. A550 is £399 from RGBTech.

well firstly like I say the budget is strictly £300 and it has to be new. A450 is £330 - £30 doesn't sound much I know but I've spent LOTS on her already
OK so why so bad? I mean..she knows nothing about SLRs so its not going to be for someone who knows what they're doing - I'm pretty certain until I buy her understanding exposure and force her to read it she'll be on auto all the time
I owned an a200 myself and was really happy with it. Just wondered why you think its so bad.

And :( I'm hurt you'd leave me for another camera. lol

I think the extra to get the 450 is well worth it, saying that I used to use the 330 and really liked it, didn't keep it for long I have the 500 now.

Right - well....just got Lightroom 3 and finally understanding the importance of camera profiles, especially for the A700 at least.

I've tried googling around and going on Dyxum, but in all honesty my head is spinning.

Is there anywhere any one knows of that has some profiles for the A700 already that I can just import into Lightroom 3?

Also do I need a profile for each lens?

I've never really had many problems with lightroom, but as I understand it I really need to reset the brightness to 0 and knock contrast down etc?

picking up my a850 tonight, may also get the 50mm f1.4 sony and 58 flash too if i can get his price down a wee bit more!

whats the differences between the minolta 50mm f1.7, the sony 50mm f1.4 and the minolta 50mm f1.4.

is f1.4 worth the extra £100???

i thinks there was a 1.4 minolta for around 160 at evilbay. great price I would say. 1.4 is defo the fullframe lens.
